Unstoppable Corruption in Austrailia

I'm playing a game as China in Marla Slinger's world map, with true starting locations, and I have colonized Australia. I can only get 1 gold and 1 sheild out of any of those cities no matter what I do. I have Democracy and nearly every city down there has a Courthouse.

The only thing I can think of since I have my Forbidden palace relatively close to my Palace (like 10 blocks on a huge map) is to move my actual palace down to the center of Austrailia. One problem however, I'm not sure if it's because I started the game without the patch then patched it (1.17f), but the Palace's build time EVERYWHERE is way to long. It looks like the sheild value at the moment is 4000 Sheilds!!!! Why my most productive cities will take 200 some turns and my least productive will take 4000 turns. There aren't even 200 turns left in the game, and I've been told that there aren't even 4000 turns in the ENTIRE GAME from start to finish.

I recently just got the new patch and it didn't fix it (I didn't really expect it to but I was hoping). any suggestions?

Either way this is a major bug, however, it seems rather uncommon since I haven't heard of it anywhere else.

BTW: I never really took note of building a palace before I patched to 1.17f, so I think the patch did it, and this may have been because I was in the middle of the game.

Any suggestions?

How many cities do you have? Once you go over the optimal # of cities (32 on a huge map), then corruption becomes much more severe. If you have more than double the optimal # of cities, then far away cities will never have less than 95% corruption/waste no matter what you do (courthouse, police station, WLTK day, etc.).

The price of the Palace goes up as you have more cities. I always thought the limit was 1000 shields, but I guess not. You must have tons of cities. The only feasible way to get a palace/Forbidden palace in a 1 shield city is to rush it with a leader. There are 540 turns in the entire game.

Ummm... THAT could be my problem.... okay, let's see I've got about 30 cities on the mainland + India + Japan + the East Indies + Austrailia + 3 cities in South America..... I think that could be the problem... ~Sigh~

Well, thanks. while I can't do anything about it, at least I know WHY.

Besides Editing the costs of the Palace and Forbidden Palace down, changing the # of optimal cities, and making such as temples and cathedrals corruption reducers (even that doesn't help sometimes), it always occured to me that in a large colonial area, the sending of a bunch of elite military units and declaring martial law in the region SHOULD reduce corruption. Executions have that effect. That should be an option. But isn't, of course.

But as we, know, the corruption thing was thrown in by Firaxis late in game development as an artifical way to slow down the timeline progress; i.e., too many tech advances too soon.

This would not likely have been needed if Firaxis gave us MORE techs than Civ 2. . . instead of FEWER.

WE NEED MORE TECHS; MORE WONDERS.

Your corruption reason might be what the others said.... to many cities.

Also I agree with Zouave.
WE NEED MORE TECHS; MORE WONDERS. NOT FEWER!

Looks like he's got another reason to trash the game!
