Updating to SMAX and getting it working

Okay, so on this computer when I upgrade to SMAX from SMAC I tend to just get a black screen on launch and have to restart my computer.
Any ideas why.
I have SMAC+SMAX from SoldOut.
My computer is: Vista HP 64bit
Q6600,
4GB RAM
HD4870 graphics card.

I was wondering if between installing SMAC and SMAX I am meant to install a patch?

Yes, you need to install The Alien Crossfire v2.0 update. Please post again if that doesn't help. Also, did you solve the directdraw problem with SMAC (from your previous posts)?

Yes, directdraw is working properly now thanks (although it does have it's pros and it cons, can no longer minimize it, but hey). Also I installed SMAX again yesterday and it seems to be working (well it worked last night, haven't tested it this morning), so maybe it is just very fickle sometimes.


EDIT: yea, it seems to be working fine atm.
