What the heck is an uprising of barbarians. I mean, I know what it does(gives their camps 20 or so horsemen), but what can I do to stop it(other than destroying them, because my armies are away). They took ALL my gold, and keep ransaking my citys. HELP!

You have a major up-rising when the 2nd civ enters a new era.

Your military advisor should warn you, and you should move good defensive units to the area if some are not already there.

If they are already ransacking your cities, well that's a different story.

You lost your money already... go to a corner in your bedroom and start crying...

Or you can give away your city to an enemy civ when the horses are coming... AND HE LOOSES THE CASH!! :cooool:

I'm playing on the Islands map and know no other Civs.

Those are actually good some times if you know no civs. This gives you a relative idea of where the other civs are tech wise. You know 2 civs are in the next age.

Whip the city for a spearman and get troops there ASAP. They will attack until you destroy them.

Hehe. I like that.

One other idea I saw the other day on this board was that when you see the barbs coming and you know you can't defend a city, you should LOAN all of your gold to another civ in exchange for GPT. I thought that was a GREAT idea. It woulda saved me 100 or so gold my last game.

Another idea I liked was leaving a barbarian encampment intact. That also woulda helped my current game. Why? To gain military experience. In my current game, I'm Persia, so I'm non-militaristic. I've had probably only 15 elite units in the whole game, even after a couple of wars. If I had left an encampment in place, I would have a chance every few turns for a unit to be promoted from vet to elite, and more elite units means a better chance for a leader when a real war breaks out. My current game is in the mid-1700's and I still haven't had a Great Leader.

I may just abandon an area of my map and hope barbs sprout up.

Spend all your money on improvlemts/units elsewhere as fast as possible if you have less than 100gold. I enjoy watching the barbarians pillage the city and get 0 gold each time....
