useless enemy cities

Hi Folks,

is there any way in Civ2 to abandon an enemy City if you take it and clearly have no use for it (which is often the case, since the AI builds his cities far to close to each other)? And if they can't be abandoned - is there a way to destroy those lousy cities in a way, that there remains nothing but dust?

Please, take me out of my misery! Everytime I plan to go for a mayor-kick-ass I find out, that it's not the enemy's defence, I fear the most. It is the load of useless cities that I have to get along with.

thx in advance

There are three options (I can think of) to make a city disappear:

1st option: the size of the enemy city is size 1. If you conquer it it will be gone. But there are some conditions that this will not work IIRC. If I'm right the city will not lose citizens when it has walls.

2th option: you can remove all worked tiles (only elvis/science/taxman). If the centertile provides less food then it cost to maintain the city the city will be disbanded when it is size 1 (this might take a long time and is perhaps not the best option.

3th option: make settlers in the city you want to disband. When at size 1 you can build a settler the city will be disbanded.

Remember the option 2 and 3 will not work at Chieftain level because the player is a bit protected to lose cities. All other levels should work fine.

If you have spies, you can poison the water supply and sabotage the city walls. If a city without walls loses units due to enemy attack, the population decreases by one. If the city is already at population 1, it is destroyed when the unit loses the battle.

You can poison down the city to a population smaller than the number of units defending the city, and if you attack it enough, it will be destroyed.

Thx for the hints,

now I am gonna invade (I just need enough spies). The idea with the settlers is also pretty good - everybody needs settlers! And they come in absolutely free, since I don't give a damn about the most enemies cities!

Thx guys!

remember to rehome the settlers. you cannot starve a city without losing the supported settlers first. but it is a good method when cash permits.

It is very unusual for a city to be "useless". To say the least, it contributes to your scientific research and tax collecting!

If you have no use for a city, build walls, leave two defense units, and put it into "automatic build" mode, building strictly city improvements such as marketplace+bank+stock market+highways/freewas, then library+university; if a coastal city, harbor, to improve food and trade; once all these improvements are built (it will take some time, but it's worth it) click on the less fruitful squares around the city to convert those "shield producing" suares into scientists, tax collectors and entertainers, in this order, until shield produciton = 0, food and trade (and research) are at theis maximum.
Switch to "Capitalization" if possible.

You'll see your coffers get richer turn after turn, and you're still in time to converto to building military units "just in case".

:)

there is a way if you take the city if it is at size 5 or over it will work :satan:
