Useless popups (or do they call them immersement messages?)

I can't take it any longer.

These stupid popup messages which are supposed to breed like roaches generating the feeling (Oh that wonderful feeling) of immersement
Definition of immerse
immersed; immersing
transitive verb
1 : to plunge into something that surrounds or covers; especially : to plunge or dip into a fluid
2 : engross, absorb
  • completely immersed in his work
3 : to baptize by immersion

It seems to me that the first definition is the most accurate.

Nobody wants a list of every little thing that happens around them. I only need the important events e.g. a spaceport is being built. A went to war with B. A launched c for the next step in a science victory, etc.
I don't knead (is that need or kneading of the mind) to no (no, is that right?) every little damage (are there cheers in the background when one of my armies wins or perhaps a popup with cheering cheerleaders (oh no too sexist and that would bring in the anime crowd....)

I guess I want this post to be banned......

But actually is there a way to only get certain popups instead of all this drivel that I never read?

Thanking you for your kind indulgence,

I remain.............(I guess) --- well I'll take the plunge and post anyway.........

I like the fact that they flood the screen between turns while you're watching AI moves play out, it gives you things to focus on while you wait, but they definitely went too far in trying to maintain their old-timey map aesthetic.

It would be nice if the cards were semi-transparent and the variables were slightly colour-coded, consistent with the nature of that variable.
"Your Lady in waiting Geneviève has reported that Egypt has cleared space for Pyramids in the city of ỉwnw"
This way your eye could easily pick out the important bits of each message while seeing through them to watch the moves playing out.

Another nice and simple feature would be a single drop-down menu in the options screen to set the access level of messages that you want popping up. So, select Secret and you would only be shown messages from Secret and Top-Secret access levels -with all or none as options as well, of course.

I don't mind the mechanic as is so much, but definitely get rid of the useless ones like so and so put an embassy in so and so's capital. Also the renewing of friendships and alliances, while they may be important, are far too numerous. Try playing with 20 civs like I do, and you'll see your entire screen fill up with these messages. If you want to see friendships go to the foreign relations screen, though sadly it's not as useful as in Civ4.

The ones that are most important are the so and so started building a wonder and completing victory conditions.

Okay but many of us do not play with 20 civs, and do consider changes in relationship between AI important so... what's the problem with variability to accommodate any possible configuration of settings and attention to detail -rather than specifically Disgustipated's game configuration (or anyone else's for that matter) as the standard for everyone?
-Especially when implementation of a more accommodating system is so simple.

Yea OP. Civ 5's notifications while somehow louder with the flashing, is somehow less distracting.

So settings that could let you ignore various things would be good.

The point is simply that it's badly implemented & feels "forced". "Good" immersion would arise from the game itself:

(1) Exploration. Honestly, exploring the unknown is one of the most interesting things
(2) Victory condition movies
(3) Diplomacy, trading tech (Not bananas!), civs telling you you grow too strong & they are afraid of you, demand their "share" (tech, money), otherwise declare war (Not emergencies!)
(4) Quests & questlines (Civ 4, to a lesser extend beyond earth, master of magic)
