Challenging Fate
Michael almost immediately opened the letter when Blackspire handed him. Was this a message from the Boss? Was he finally going home away from these idiots? This was nerve-wrecking, and he had to know. However, he had to withhold himself, for this "team" needs not to know his darkest secrets. "Better off just slipping into an old alley", Michael mumbled before doing exactly so.
After making sure he is alone, Michael tore the letter open like a kid opening his gift on Christmas. Unraveling the letter, he noticed the thing was short, no more than ten words. It read that a "we" knows exactly what he wants. Fair enough, they should know what he wants by his letters. But then it started listing random nations that had no meaning whatsoever, and the letter made no sense from there. Finally, it was signed by "a friend".
"A... friend?", he stammered. The Boss would never sign any letters to him besides "The Boss". He made it perfectly clear as he left to the mainland he would use that term as consistency to make sure The Boss's identity is not compromised. It couldn't be another member of the organization, for again The Boss made clear only he would represent them. Michael sighed and crumpled the now-meaningless letter and threw it on the ground. Normally, he would burn it so it couldn't trace back to him, but this seems unnecessary due to the letter lacking any meaning at all, let along an unclear one.
"Perhaps next time".
