using slavery

I tried to play with caste system a while ago and I hated it when going to war. Instead of whipping up theatres and courthouses I could only sit and watch as the occupied cities starved (as specialists, but still). If for nothing else, dealing with ungrateful citizens of occupied territory is reason enough for slavery.

I started using slavery about a week ago, and it's great for building up infastructure. I still haven't worked up to whipping out armies, but I'll get there eventually.

It's very situational. I favour whipping 3+ pop at once, and this doesn't work well for units. Of course, if I need units I will whip them, but it's not an absolutely needed move. I have the feeling it's a bit abusive anyway (whip 2 pops for 2 units and only 1 unhappiness).

I usually try to Role Play spreading an evil empire.. Via early slavery, theocracy, vasselage, to police state with pyramids if Im lucky to get it, and then I beeline for fascism :O

I too enjoy the empire wide whipping strategy, it actually speeds up both production and unhappiness in my empire and the world, both of which I try to maximize.. I also go for statue of Zeus to make the opponent dually miserable! When I have vassalized my neighbours I generally force them to adopt despotism and slavery to keep them down, and then when I get nukes, I make silly demands so we go to war, then I nuke them and raze their cities!

I felt this way was the most realistic.

What, no whipping ?? I can't imagine conquering an AI city without slavery. It is the best usage for those :mad: :mad: slaves.. err subjects.. Whip a couple (or more) to build temple/catherdral/theatre. First you eliminate :mad:, second you got a building to add more :) ->reduce :mad: even more.. Win-win-win

It is also a good way to get defender ASAP in newly conquered cities. Just another usage of otherwise useless :mad: :mad: :mad: slaves..

Morality wise (if you must have rationale.. gah, its just a game)... would you rather let your subjects die of starvation or train them to be axemen so they have a chance to defend themselves ???

slavery can also save your skin when you get caught with your pants down when the enemy troops come knocking on your door. i'm a decent player, but sometimes i get a little behind in defences and slavery works great as a safety net...just whip out a few extra defenders to buy you some extra time! sucks that the ai figured it out hahahaha

too many times i've switched out of slavery and i get caught with no way of stopping invaders, wether i have my troops in someone elses territory, or just was caught unprepared....

BUT, as Saladin (for example), you can change back to slavery with no cost for revolution!! YEEEEEEEEE HA! And whip out an extra defender - just when you need one.
