\or they are arrogant idiots who knew what it was but didnt care because it was "cool"
An anti-racist would never think it is cool.
That's the point. You have to at least have racist sympathies to think the SS symbol is cool. Period.

No, you don't.That's the point. You have to at least have racist sympathies to think the SS symbol is cool. Period.
I can easily understand why people think the SS is "cool". And there doesn't have to be any racism involved in it.I do, however, think that they think that the SS is cool!
And why not? The SS uniforms were designed by Hugo Boss (or his company, at least), the uniforms are black (black is an awesome, powerful and cool colour!), and even the German army helmets from WW2 look cool (shaped as they were, to look like Roman helmets).
And the German army - especially the SS, which was the elite of the army - during WW2 was awesome! They conquered almost all of Europe! And the SS were the elite parts of that awesome army!
And they've seen German soldiers from WW2, and SS soldiers especially, portrayed in movies and books. And those soldiers were wicked cool! Like Darth Vader even! (Who also dressed in black and had a Roman-shaped helmet.)
That's not entirely fair. There's a sizeable area between "racist" and "anti-racist" called "oblivious moron", and I tend to prefer giving people the benefit of the doubt.

That's not a spectrum, that's two unrealistic monoliths that you've constructed to suit yourself. It's un-empirical nonsense. (I mean, what's a "racist-sympathiser", anyway? How many people are going around saying "My, I do admire those racists, but sadly it's just not for me"?)nope. You are either anti-racist, or a racist sympathizer, or a N-bomb dropping racist. That is the spectrum.
Self-righteous swagger and awkward paragraphing aside, I don't actually disagree with this.Don't even try to tell me one out of seven of these guys didn't know it was a Nazi symbol. That's pure fantasy. More than likely, ALL of them knew it was a Nazi symbol.
You don't live in today's culture as a young man, with any kind of military fondness, and not know at least what the swatsika and the SS were.
Let's take a poll, at any gaming or military forum, and ask people if they know what the SS symbol is. I bet well over 85% would know. But you are going to try to tell me, NONE of these seven knew? Balderdash. Such denial.
Now, if this was a group of knitters, known as the "sewing Sisters" I might be inclined to believe they were ignorant of the symbol. But that doesn't imply tha they are actually racists. That's a leap of logic which you haven't substantiated in any way.
But it's not. Not even close.
Well, Chaim Weitz evidently does. You can't think it's cool, and not have racist sympathies. Again, would a JEw ever think it's cool?
Oh, please! Give me a break. You can't think it's cool, and not have racist sympathies. Again, would a JEw ever think it's cool? Why not? Even if the Jew was a WW II buff? Give me a break.
Your ignoring a whole lot of people who are wholly uninterested in race and completely uninterested in the politics of race and would much rather focus all their time on thinking about something else.
(I mean, what's a "racist-sympathiser", anyway? How many people are going around saying "My, I do admire those racists, but sadly it's just not for me"?)

The vast majority of people are actually able to separate a complex issue into components and look at each independently from time to time.
I'll easily say it: I think the SS-uniforms look cool! The uniforms inspire authority, respect and power, and they look awesome. And lots of the symbols used by the SS - and the Third Reich for that matter - are cool (figures, they borrowed the cool symbols from all over...). I'm also quite impressed with what the German armed forces were able to accomplish during the war.
That doesn't mean that I'm in any way ignoring the crimes committed by members of the SS or by the Third Reich. To claim that is simply laughable.
No, I'm not stupid. Whatever my reasons would have been for flying an SS flag, I know how such a flag would have been interpreted by most others.Would you ever fly an SS flag?
