USS Constitution Style Frigate?

All the pictures I usually peruse through on the internet, concerning sailing warships, show a Frigate to look more like the hull of the Civ3 Privateer with the sails of the Civ3 Frigate. It looks sleeker, faster, and more compact.

So, I began to think, would this make a nice, new, relatively simple new unit to make? Would it be worth it? What do you guys think?

You see my new Frigate next to the Civ3 Frigate.

Comments? . . . I know it's very similar, but the key is the difference in the hull. I like the privateer hull much better.

I dont think its worth it, there are other ships that are more needed than a modification of the Frigate.

I say, if it is simple enough go for it! We can always use another Age-of-Sail unit and I like what you have done with that frigate.

CK if your tring for USS Constitution style, why not enlarge the hull slightly and raise it higher out of the water. I think you'll have a winner.

I like it, but I don't know if they are different enough for them both to be used in the same game. Whether it's worth it or not is up to you. I like the orginal Frigate, but the small cannon ports definately look better than the oversized cartoon cannons.

Maybe you could lessen the civ coloring on the sails to help differentiate them.

The idea was to use this unit in place of the current Frigate graphic. Thanks for the info, Klyde.

In place of!?! That’s ludicrous! Why would I want to replace the graphics when I can use these as either a completely different unit or as a flavor unit for the Americans?

Actually Kal-el if you plan on using one as a flavor unit or UU for America, you should use the default frigate. Then use this as the standard frigate.

The USS Constitution and her sister ships were larger and more powerful than traditional frigates. These 'super frigates' were built to serve multi-purpose because America couldn't afford ships-of-the-line. During the war of 1812 the British took such a beating trying to go 'one on one' that the Admiralty ordered their frigates not to engage except 2 to1.

I don't think I would really see the difference in-game, so I say concentrate on some other ship. That war galleon looked cool, for example.

Well, I would much rather have the hull larger, but the SBB version that I have will not allow me to make units greater than 100% normal size. Has this changed?

I could change the sails if you like. I think I may do my War Galleon first while I'm waiting for Arne to fix up my pcx of the Clipper Ship I sent him.

These are just things for me to fiddle with. Thank you all for your comments.

I think the SBB does allow increasing the size now.

Heck no they had the largest and best Navy at the time (well as stated above America's Super Frigates beat them) in Europe and even caused casualties on America. I gave England so many Naval UU's I cant keep track of them of course I did this with America too and some of the other sea powers modern of ancient.

I didn't say they were a larger navy, just better sailers.

But, before this turns into a war, let me just say that I love the UK. I love the British Royal Navy, especially Nelson's Navy. I was just joking around, because that was a pretty cool upset victory by the US Navy over the then most powerful navy in the world. Especially considering that the US was only 36 years old at the time and our "navy" had been soundly trounced during the revolution.

at the time the brittish had a better navy now you could say the US but in all fairness the US and UK engage in so many coalition expeditions these days that your navy/army/airforce is our navy/army/airforce and vice versa.
