I ma not sure if this is a butg or me being dim!

Have just downloaded v1.52 and played a game and I can't launch nuclear weapons

i) I selected the nuclear missile
ii) I press the 'big red button' icon
iii) I select the target tile
iv) I clickthe mouse (I have tried both right and left buttons)

...and nothing happens.

I have tried different government settings but to no avail. Is this is a bug, or am I simply not using the interface correctly, or have fallen foul a rule that I have not propoerly understood?

regards

PS> v1.52 was a big improvement for me :D

I haven't gotten into this situation, but there is a UN resolution banning nuclear weapons. Could that have been passed, and that's why you're restricted?

If you have any units in the blast radius you can not launch.

I think this applies if any "friendly" unit is in the way also.

I believe that the UN resolution only applies to not BUILDING any new Nukes. You can still have them and use them.

You can't launch nukes at a target if any of your units or cities would be caught in the blast radius. The same goes for any third party units or civs. This includes spies which can occasionally cause problems

there were no friendly units.....I tried to nuke a city of each of the 6 civilisations - just to see if there was some sort of rule about not blowing up people you were friends with....

The UN did exist......and I was Secretary General. The resolution re: Nuclear Weapons had not been proposed.

Thinking about it the only other thing I can think of was that I had no declared war. I have saved the game . I will try declaring war and then nuking Queen Victoira (she is just about to win the space race - so I think you will agree she brought it on herself!)

That's it right there - no war, no nuking.

I don't think that you can talk them into the nuking being "extwa pwetty bi'thday fiwewo'ks"... :p

np: Peter Grummich - Frozen World (Kompakt Total 6)

Yep - need to declare war first - then can nuke away to your hearts content

D'uh!!!

Which makes absolutely zero sense, since if you move units into any civ's non-open borders, you are simply ASKED if you want to declare war.

It's a sort of side effect of not being able to catch friendly troops in the blast. If you could nuke without declaring war, you'd be in effect nuking friendly troops, and so you could end up with undesired wars because a third party civ had a spy in the wrong place at the wrong time. Definitely better to have to declare war first.
