v1.52: Fatal_Error Message

EDIT:
My god, I am sorry. What a jumble mess of words. Seems I was in a hurry and had way to much coffee.
I will attempt to re word this so people can actually understand it.
John,
"Please feel lucky that you got this far. It is nothing that will be answered by any tech support. You see if the answer with any thing other then a scripted well thought out answer, they are admitting that they screwed up on this game. "
Tech support is not going to say it is the game. They are going to stick to the "its your system, update everything and then install the patch. If this does not work you must have installed it incorrectly, Try uninstall and reinstall or update your machine". They have to stick to this. They can not say they errored. They can not blame the product they are supporting. They must stick to the party line. That party line right now seems to be to keep running them in circles until the expansion pack.
Now John, this is IMHO, the plan. They need money, and a expansion pack is the way to make more money.

The next part was me going off about the loyal subjects here on this forum. For the most part, the members of this forum are loyal to a fault when it comes to this game. When I first came on here looking for answers all I read was suctomers, blaming the way people installed or telling people to defrag drives. Like this is going to fix poor programming. The best was all the EYE DEE TEN Tee's telling people to upgrade there machines. You would think most of these people owned stock in hardware companies. As far as the loyalists were concerned the problem was with anything but the game. I personally became offended at some of the advice that was being given out and that started my existence here. I am a hardware geek, and some of the bull that was spread was pretty deep. My favorite part is when these loyalists get out the dictionary and try and sound smart. Its almost as if they think the bigger word I use the more chances I have at being right. In the words of my 6 year old god daughter, "WHAAATEVEEEERRRRR!".

The next part was me telling you what the best fix I found for the game. Its a little program called uninstall. No more CTD's no more system locks. It works wonders.
I will say the best luck I did have with the game was the 1.09 patch and harks patch. As soon as I went to 1.52, The ctd's returned and so did the locks. I actually sold the game. The only reason I came back was my sisters kid started to play it. And I am the one who works in IT, so I am the family geek. WOO HOO!

So John, as you can see, I hate this game. No hidden feelings there. If you can not get the game to work with the above patch and fix, I would just uninstall until the next patch, or wait for the real patch that will be sold with the expansion pack.

I have the same problem, it crashes and says no more video memory.

It's unplayable no matter which level of graphics details I set.

When will the next patch release??

Well thank god I read this forum last =( I have updated all my drivers jumped through hoops and then read this one. I even updated my Vid card to Radeon 9550 *sigh* well hopefully they will get it together. Well the good thing is out of ll of this is that ....I updated my video card =/ And John that was the funniest thing I have read for a long time. You must love Tech support lmao and please post the response.

The next patch is expected in a couple of weeks. It has many gameplay fixes and improvements, including movie fixes and significant system and video memory reductions. The lower video memory usage should help people who are geting out of vram warnings. Sorry you've had a bad experience - I hope the next patch improves things for you.

Hopefully the patch will fix the problems some people are having with those issues (I know how frustrating such things can be). However I'm concerned that thamer's note above said absolutely nothing about the patch addressing the GameSpy multiplayer problems, which are pervasive and are really holding back the game. I personally know two would-be Civ players who are simply unwilling to try the thing again as long as the multiplayer connectivity is so infuriatingly broken; the GameSpy lobby is rife with similar reports.

The two killer GameSpy issues are the "bad peer" problem, and the game hanging when a player retires as opposed to just exiting to menu. Please tell us that the upcoming patch will deal with those?

Wow i have no idea how i got here (i clicked on a link and then another and somehow it got me here  )

Anyway, i feel really bad for you guys i could play the game fine from the beginning but quickly realized there ARE problems with this game that need to get fixed fast. The game obviously has some poor quality programming and the worst customer service i have ever seen EVER as JRobbs has already seen. I wont go on bashing Firaxis since we have enough of that already but i will say the game itself is awesome so just chill out until the next patch comes out, play some other games in the meantime or something, once Firaxis gets the patch out you'll be glad you didnt sell off this game so just kick back a bit and relax.

Same problem. I've sent 3-4 full crash logs with all details of my system etc. nearly 2 months ago. I never got a response that had any meaning I gave up after 2 weeks of attempts. The phone number provided is disconnected.

Yes I have a hotrod computer with all the right stuff. No it's not my system or anything to do what anything but the Civ4 application. Yes, my system is loaded with all the correct patches for everythings. Yes I get the same errors that everyone else is posting.

Programing wise we are looking at memory overflow errors... (in case they need a hint)

Yes, some 5-6 weeks ago I slammed Civ 4 on several computer game rating sites. I encourage you all to do the same. Yes the game is awesome when it decides (apparently randomly) to work. Yes, if they fix it, I'll update my negitive reviews. But potential buyers should know they need to wait until it actually works.

Ya know what. I love civ 4, as I have done so all the way back to civ 1 (when it was jus civ). They have all had great aspirations, graphics (for their time), decent passages thru historia, and the one thing that all gamers want, no script that says once you solve it, its over. However, This particular version aka civ 4 needs help. Great concepts, nice graphics, a few tweaks that seperate it from 3. But, no matter how good a game it MAY be, it is being let down by some shoddy second rate programming that somehow made it by some form of quality control. I ask, is this the product they meant to mass produce and put on the shelves, or is this some bad joke, a tease. They show us the potential, and then yank it away cruelly. Sounds like the meanest thing to do in the afterlife. Dont send him straight to hell, show him a moment of heaven first! This is jus plain bad. Yet, for all the complaining we do, they at firaxis etc are jus sittin back smiling because we bought the product anyways and will probably do so for the expansion which passed the same quality control! Yippee, I can hardly wait to throw away some more money.
