 ,
My system eats Civ IV for breakfast normally, no problems with graphics, memory, anything else at all, usually. I patched to 1.61 and suddenly I'm getting CTDs in industrial and later - and when attempting to load a save from several turns back, it does the same thing. Clean reinstall/repatch did not help. In general,

In game: complete a turn. Just when the processor comes back to your turn, the screen blanks out and CTD, the usual "send error report" box. No info in details.
On load: the little status/tips screen gets right up to "finishing," acts like it's going to go to the game per normal, then CTD as above.
No other errors or any details available.

No mods, no custom assets, pure vanilla. It started happening with SmartMap, but I dumped that like a hot rock first thing.
I auto-clear cache.
System is running cool including GPU per advice posted in other threads. Memory use averages 13% and does not seem to go up as the game progresses.
AMD Athlon 3400+, 991MHz, 1.43 G RAM, Nvidia GeForce 6150 256K onboard. The game positively flies on all zooms, all graphics, never slows down; movies, sound, all good.

Help? I've played part of 4 games as America in the last 2 days and would like to finish one! I just don't get it - it acts like a program error rather than a graphics problem, but I can't figure it out.

Does it happen at same time everytime in the same game? if so.. do you have a save from right before it happens?
Could be it crashes when a certain wonder is completed or something similar.

no, not at the same time each game, just later on, generally a few turns after I hit railroad or thereabouts. The last time I went another 20 turns beyond railroad, several extra techs and only then it happened. It does not only occur when I get a new tech, just handy to explain what game-stage I'm in. No wonders, no improvements seem to trigger it - it's kinda random. It's dumped out on turns where NOTHING got built - units, wonders, or improvs. What's weird is it doesn't act like it's leaking memory before it pooh poohs.
I don't have any of the saves, they were unplayable even from one install to the other so I dumped them all. I'd start another game to see what it does but I'm too frustrated right now.

It could be something an AI builds too.. not just when you build something.

Or it could be that once you get late in game the game is using more memory, and starts using a section of your RAM chips that is damaged

lol, my RAM better not be damaged, I just bought it!!! (three weeks ago!)
Thanks for trying to help - it's just so randomly frustrating! Argh!
