V1 - Not Afraid Of Mansa

OK, line me up then after T_Raccoon.

Looking at the save, I have a few MM suggestions to get CoL faster (and maybe keep up with these financial civs on tech):

-Work gems instead of forest in Yaroslav'l
-Work coast instead of forest hill in Tours (only adds one turn to worker production)
-Work village instead of cows in Marseille (it will grow in 10 turns and we can work the cow)
-Work incense in Orlean

This would allow 20% science with +2 per turn and get CoL in 10 turns. Setting Paris to produce research would get it in 8. Paris is about to exceed happiness limit, so I'm not sure an aqueduct helps there.

Feel free to ignore or adjust these MM suggestions as the situation warrants. :)

something unexpected happened and im in a hurry sorry ill explain later. So if rddc wants to swap that'd be great. you seem pretty eager and you pretty much know what to do. sorry once again ill definitely play tomorrow though. good luck rddc

OK, I will play it tonight.

My warmongering skills are not the best, so maybe you guys have some advice on how to proceed. I know we want to move to Rostov next, but it seems Cathy's counter-attack/defending force is mostly mounted units and catapults in decent numbers. Should a wait a few turns to get some more spears and those cats into the picture (assuming there is more horse archer/elephant/cat in her territory)? Thinking maybe another 4-5 turns, or will that just give her more time to crank units? Would a 10-turn treaty where we get a tech be desirable? I don't have the best feel for these things, so let me know what you think.

Second question: where do we want that settler to found?

There is a spot for the settler north of Paris I think.

If possible don't let the Russian forces get to within striking distance of Yaro.

Heal up and move on!

im sorry i couldn't play guys my sister kind of surprised all of us when she woke us up at 4:00 in the morning cause she was having her baby. This happened on a school day too (senior in high school) and i had to drive my other sister to her house to take care of my niece while they went to the hospital. Then i still had to go to school and had to stay after till 4:00pm to make up some tests. came home and still had to do homework and then had to go see my sister at the hospital. it was like 12:00 midnight and i was dead tired i only had 4 hours of sleep and would only have 6 hours of sleep before i had to wake up to go to school today.

But since i dont have school tomorrow ill have a report up as soon as rddc posts his report just to make up for it :D

Hey, congrats on being a new uncle, T-Raccoon!

Whew, that took forever. I underestimated how long it would take to efficiently prosecute the war on Cathy. Anyhow, I was going to do a nice write up with screenies and all, but it's 2 am and I have to work, so here is the abbreviated version:

We took Rostov with few casualties and we have a butt-kicking army at this point. The problem is we are lagging in tech and the war is taking its toll on the economy and will soon effect happiness. I left a city assault force at the doorstep of Vladivostok, with moves this turn. I didn't know whether to take or to raze it because the city spot is not the best and we have our maintenance issues, but it will leave a small hole next to horses that I'm sure Qin or Huyana would love to have.

Oh yeah, we met Huayna and I traded HBR/Construction/Alpha/Calendar and 10 coin to him for Compass/Currency/Monarchy. Didn't revolt to Monarchy with the war on. Signed open borders with Huayna.

I think it might be a good idea to extort a tech out of Cathy for a 10 turn breather while we get our economy and research into higher gear. I may have overkilled on the units and they are costing us. On the other hand, Cathy may be getting Macemen and/or Knights very soon (another reason to take away those horses at Vladivostok). Have a look at the save and see what you think. Also, a good once through the cities to check what they are working might be a good idea. It got late and I just didn't have the time to MM everything at the end.

Some things to be considering:
-Getting some courthouses and marketplaces chopped
-What wonders to aim for
-Getting some trade routes/open borders going with a ship
-Spreading Christianity
-Getting a Great Prophet for the Confucian shrine (and spreading it)
-Tech path

Anyone still interested in this game? Maybe we should advertise for replacement players on the reg. thread?

I'll take it tonight from rddc's save if T-rac hasn't or from T-rac's if he has.

Took the full 48 hours and tried to play out the finish of CAtherine of Russia but just quite couldn't get it done. Decided that Feudalism and Civil Service made a nice tribute after kicking her down to two town in the tundra and the nation just needed the respite.

Much fiddling with the budget allocations and reassignment of citizens to keep us from going broke and used the whip often to bring the unruly French to heel and get some happy buildings up. But by the end there just wasn'tm enough heart left in the people to carry on the war.

Started a monastery in a Christian town so we could spread the Word, we also need a Jewish monastery to spread that word. We control boith holy cities and both shrines.

Met the rest of the world, there are a column of technology ahead of us, but that is all.

Once Feudalism and Civil Service were in changed civics to Bureauracracy and Serfdom so we can chop out some useful buildings in the former Russian lands. A nice addition would be the FP, in either Moscow or Rostov. Rostov would build it faster as it has more lumber available.

Get the serfs to the south and get that land made more useful. Lots of watermills would be really nice along the Russian rivers, let the homeland work cottages into towns and use Russia for hammers.

Got another scientist out of Paris and used him for Philosophy looking for trade bait to the other countries and managed to squeeze Machinery out of the Inca.

Well, just played builder for a while and researched guilds and optics (played one extra turn by accident, sorry bout that). Got some missionaries spamming and used a Great Artist in St. Pete to expand borders a bit. There are a couple of caravels queued up that we can use to connect trade routes with civs on the other continent(s). This will for sure help our economy as we have a LOT of resources to trade and of course several coastal cities will benefit from decent trade routes. Built National Epic in Rheims due to 3 food resources there and lots of grassland, should have another GP in around 10 turns.

We are pretty far behind in tech, but the prospects are decent to catch up due to the size of our empire. A spacer race victory seems possible, not sure about Diplomatic. I doubt domination is possible with our tech deficit and it is too late to go for cultural I think.

Burn up the cats but hurt Qin's forces at Petersburg, and start training some more elsewhere. He is coming at us with knights, muskets and cats. The Great Engineer born at Rheims put us within two turns of Engineering so I cranked up the science to get it in one for the faster roads and the pikes. The specialists at Rheims become merchants to earn some more cash.

We can see into most of Qin's closest cities and he seems to lack much in the way of punch once the force at St Petersburg is dealt with.

Once Engineering is in turn off the research spending and use the money for upgrades and troop training. Qin is going to wish he hadn't done this!

Wow, I didn't see Qin's attack coming at all. I had spread out some of the troops from our Russian attack force because I was expecting Huayna to come knocking along some coastal town. Qin will indeed pay.

Agreed on the civics changes.

About the trade routes, I didn't realize at the time that Astronomy was needed; sorry if I wasted some reasearch. I guess Optics wasn't that bad a pick anyway.

I will probably play tomorrow night. Any suggestions on what path to take next on the research?

OK, we razed Qin's Northwestern city and captured Shanghai to find it had the Great Library and Notre Dame in it. Very nice. Qin still refuses to talk and none of his remaining cities is really worth prolonging the war over.

Since we didn't have any foreign trade routes I switched to Mercantilism and went back to slavery on the same turn to save on civic upkeep.

Our main problem is we are really getting behind in tech. Any suggestions you have on this front are welcome. I guess we just need to be patient and let our cottages grow and build.

If we are going for Diplo win, I guess we should start focusing on growing our pop and forming alliances in opposition to our likeliest rival (Huayn or Washington I believe). Forming a religious block won't work as every single AI has a different state religion right now, one with no state religion.

Good luck my man.

Got it and will see what I can do about the Chinese and the Russians. We have a cople of religions to work with, so I will also see what I can do with those.

If we can clear the bozos from the home island then technology becomes less of an issue.

Gone but not forgotten....War with China inconclusive as he now has rifles. WE can win this if we concentrate on building up the cities and, at some point , remove the Chinese and Russians. And cozy up to everybody else except the Capac as if we want to add pop he is the handiest overseas target.
Turn 226 (1580 AD)
Paris begins: Knight
Decide the time has come to switch civics to Organized Religion and convert to Judaism. We could use the help putting up buildings in Russia and with the Heroic Epic Paris doesn't need a boost to train soldiers. My objective is to set up to take Cathy with maces and trebs before the other guys show up in force. Since there are no active overseas trade routes no one has Astronomy.
Take Universal Suffrage at the same time as the town hammers will come in handy.
Then sell the World Map around for some spare change.

St. Petersburg begins: Barracks
St Pete was working on a Theater but that's has been swapped to a barracks.

We can see into most of Qin's closest cities and he seems to lack much in the way of punch once the force at St Petersburg is dealt with.

Once Engineering is in turn off the research spending and use the money for upgrades and troop training. Qin is going to wish he hadn't done this!

Pick up Gunpowder then go for Rifling. Build popoulation enhancers and also train some missionaries to spread the faith(s) around. With rifles we can do better against the Chineses and the Russians. Don't need to train any troops, we have lots, but we do need some more seige engines. Get the towns growing. Cote dIvoire needs some serious foresrtry and some irrigation. Anything built sahould add happinesss and health so the cities can grow.
