Hi everybody,

I have become interested in making a let's play series about C2C on youtube (playing Deity/nightmare). I've never made or edited videos before so I need to figure out how-to first (hints and tips of experienced youtubers are of course welcome).

I have decided to play vanilla V36. I am aware that Joseph_II has made a crime patch however I have already generated the map I want to play in V36, so I'd like to stay safe and stick to vanilla V36 as SVN versions tend to introduce bug fixes as well as new bugs.

Episode 1 will be about installing the game and troubleshooting. And for that I'm writing a script. For this script I have a bunch of questions.

This is what I came up with so far:
------------------------------
-quick introduction: what is C2C?
-warning: much more demanding than CIV 4: BTS, so you need a decent computer.
-install CIV 4 BTS, where to buy? (Steam, Amazon)
-run patch 3.19 manually
-no other mods (like BUG) are needed
-download C2C and place it in the mods folder. Note there are 2 mods folders, one in the BTS directory and one in Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword
-making a quickstart link on your desktop.
-introduction to SVN. V36 is revision 8790. Discuss pro's and con's of SVN version, rev 9098 is the last compatible version with V36, after that save games will be broken.

Troubleshooting:
-warning about long load times the first time.
-run as administrator
-name folder EXACTLY Caveman2Cosmos
-watch for double folders (folder-in-folder)
-initial BUG errors can be solved by saving
-too long installation path (windows folder name)
-if trouble after an SVN update, throw out the whole C2C folder and re-download.
-EDIT: what to do if you get the Warlords screen on startup.

Extra:
-changing frequency of autosaves
-separate .ini file in your quickstart link?
-where to make bug reports. How to make a proper one.

------------
My questions:

1) Some people reported missing interface upon starting. How to solve this?
2) I remember reading old stuff about viewports and 4GB switch. Are such things still necessary in some cases and if so when and how?
3) EDIT: the Lotus temple fix also works after you started a game. according to DH
The bottom of the first post in
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=557142
(bug thread V36 download)
it mentions a known issue with the Lotus Temple and recommends removing it manually using notepad. Question: does this work after I've already generated the map, as I read somewhere that generating the map also fixates the tech tree?
4) is it ok to download SVN directly into the mods folder, or should it be put in a separate folder and then copied to the mods folder?
5) Anything I've missed so far?

Episode 2 will be setting up a game (discussing map generation options). Game will start in episode 3. I will play without music as I found that it makes it harder to hear the video maker. I may edit in some other stuff like what the hell is an atlatl.

2) Viewports can certainly help with larger maps / more opponents. The 4GB switch is a very good idea, provided you have a 64bit system and more than 4GB ram. It can be found at http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php - it's the BTS exe that must be patched.

4) This is risky. If you do that, you have the most recent SVN version in play, with all the newest bug-fixes and bugs in the game. And it is often a good idea not to update constantly, since you can avoid the recalc if you load a game with the same assets/DLL a second time.

I'm pretty sure that Fireaxis made BTS large address aware in one of their latest patches, I at least haven't used a 4 GB switch and play gigantic map sizes just fine with viewports (giant without viewports.).

It should be mentioned in your tutorial that steam users have to activate the beta version of BTS if they want to play multiplayer. The steam beta version is actually an older version than the standard that allows for direct IP connections. When gamespy servers went down steam ripped out a large portion of the games multiplayer functionality.

Scripts looks great. A lot of people think that modding in Civ is kind a magic but its realy simple. You video can help debunk these myths.

Since adding the 4GB switch my graphic issues are minimal and I've never had to use Viewports on any Map size including Gigantic. The default graphical paging is all that I use with a 1GB DDR3 video card (last 2 vid cards actually) You don't get the full 4 GB but it's close 3.8+ GB which is almost a full gig over the 3GB switch that 32 bit users need. Of course I've been using only x64 OS since XP Pro 64. Plus I never (even on win10) "Let Windows" manage my performance and paging files, Custom and performance based.

4GB switch has nothing to do with VRAM, only RAM, but you might be right even though I've read in a fireaxis BTS changelog said BTS was now large address aware.
