Variant Brain Storming Thread

Handy: :D I wanted to do some something like that with no MM, but I realize it will make you a worse civ player.

Handy and MP--
We did autoworkers and governors in Who1 as Ugly on Emperor and we crushed everyone. I think Renata had 3 leaders on one turnset.
Oh and lots of music was discussed too! :band: Who1: Tom Tom Club bangs a drum.

Should we do Who2 at DG as an open SG?

YES PLEASE>>>>>

Most AW games (maybe all?) rely on the Great Library.
Try a game without building or capturing the GL.

I had an Idea about Math04:Another100k. But instead of being a religious civ, like india(which is their chosen civ for that SG), a non religious civ, like ,Byzantines, they have no help on early culture, and on a pangaea, now thats what I call a challenge.

Byzantine 100k;5CC(Modded Rules applying 20kOC), on a pangaea(so seafaring trait is useless)

F’n Bureaucrats would be interesting. Set all workers to automatic and let the governor select your all your build queues, and no MMing. Perhaps this would be no fun since you would yell :wallbash: at the PC thru your 10 turn set.

Maybe you should check out this thread. Not quite as tough, only difference is we could select builds.

I thought about including building queues, and advisor research, everything automated. That would sum up to having only 2 edges over the AI: city placement and unit MM. That game could be really hard at Emperor.

Destroy all Wonders!
must declare war vs. any civ that builds a wonder, peace is made when the offending wonder city is razed. Should be played on pangaea.

Sid, one on one
A tiny map game with one opponent, Sid difficulty.

Sid one on one is incredibly easy, the easiest settings on sid.

Really? I've never attempted Sid, but you are probably right. Maybe it could be mixed in with other variants.

Guys, I think there is a level where we don't need much variant to have fun: Sid! :D

Most sid victories I have seen have taken advantages from some specific settings. So I suggest to try a "normal" sid game with these restrictions.

1. Not arch map. Continents or pangea, which one is harder?

2. No trick about GLib. We will not build GLib. To make it more convincing, we don't start with alphabet (so not commercial or seafaring). Capture GLib? Well, maybe only when we are truly desperate ... But a victory without capturing GLib is happier.

3. Not super great start location. For example, no cow!

4. Barbarians are raging or sth, anyway they must be there.

5. Not agricultural. Self-explanatory ...

6. Random opponents. No delibrate tailoring of map setting.

Is there any other?

These restrictions are not really restrictions at deity, where people can win no matter what happens. But I personally don't see any sid win with these. Certainly we don't need to add more variant to it to make it artifically harder, and it's simply harder and probably more interesting than most variants. We can call it "sid fairness" or sth.

What do you think?

1. Not arch map. Continents or pangea, which one is harder?

Pangaea, definately. AI's will get to the middle ages by 1500BC, there is no way to keep up without the GL, so continents is better (like nero3)

4. Barbarians are raging or sth, anyway they must be there.

Sedentary would be toughest, AI can get techs. Raging can bully AI settlers home, and humans are more competent at protecting theirs without hiding them in a city (like the AI does) so any higher helps humans

IMO alphabet starting with is needed for getting to republic quicker.

With these settings best civ would be America.

Actually, I can't, but Obormot, Boogaboo, EMan, and Offa can. It's really all luck.
I think there is a write-up by boogaboo somewhere in the hof forum. That is what inspired me to try this too. Actually you can win pretty easily even with bad luck, luck is required only to get a good ranking in the hof. The difficulty increases really fast as the map size increases though, because while you kill 1, 2 or 3 AIs the others will build strong defense.

Now let me add a funny little variant: conquering a tiny pangaea with jags is easy, but what about a standard or even large one?

Civ: Aztecs
World: Standard/Large pangaea
Level: Deity
Variant: No research by any means, the only units we are allowed to build is the Jaguar Warrior.

How many jags does it take to kill a musket or a rifle ? Let's build swarms of jags and find it out. This can be played in PTW instead of C3C because jags cost 10 shields in PTW and 15 in C3C, or we can mod C3C to lower the cost.
