I can see Big Ben being the sine qua non for this civ. It would only be a matter of mounting a clock face on the campanile![]()
i am highly amused by this observation. slow clap.

Since Venice is going to be the only city that Venice can build wonders in, it may behoove Venetian players to move their initial Settler around until they get the perfect spot. If you don't start on the coast, you might as well resign - you're locking yourself out of a third of the wonders, and stunting your navy. Hopefully Venice has a start bias for coastline within two tiles of a mountain.
I'd be more concerned with Venice being non-coastal that it locks me out of those juicy sea trade routes. But a coastal start bias is a given.
People seem to be missing a lot of logic here...
Venice isn't an "OCC" civ, an OCC by standards is a civilization that controls only 1 city AT ALL times. Venice controls city by absorbing city states or conquering them.
So... it means all you have to do is get a city on a coast, capture it or absorb it if it's a City State, and voila, you got yourself a coastal city, you can buy stuff with gold from there.
If Venice is going to get a Coastal Bias, you have a LOT of chance that it's going to star there.

I wonder if the Merchant of Venice units will have unique names like the Khans. Could Antonio be in?
They should call them Great Bankers. A merchant goes to a city-state and makes a tidy profit. The Merchant of Venice goes in and comes away with a mortgage for the whole city.
I think that could be only answered with exact numbers(i. e. when BNW comes out) but I suspect coastal could be better for 1. earlier access to naval trade route 2. can buy sea units in capital(where your Heroic epic is located)Good pointSo what's better if you have to chose (let's say the rest is comparable)? Coastal capital without river with wonders perspective (Great Lighthouse, Colossus), or continental capital on river/lake (Garden)?

I wonder how the AI will play as Venice??
Question - if Venice has an advanced start, will they get the normal extra Settlers?

I hope they do. Certainly Marco Pollo will be on the list.
When I think bankers, I think Florence, not Venice.
I feel bad for the devs. There must be some annoyance at this leak.
But at least we finally fricking know...
