Is there any place online I can access the version history of this game, along with the respective version numbers (1.0.0.x) ? All I could find was the changelogs.

The patch notes for all updates through February 2021 can be found on Civfanatics here, or on the official Civilization and Steam sites linked below.

The notes for all four patches can be found here. Version #'s are:
  • 1.0.0.26 - Initial Release
  • 1.0.0.38 - Fall Patch
  • 1.0.0.56 - Winter Patch
  • 1.0.0.110 - Australian Summer Patch
  • 1.0.0.129 - Spring Patch

So what do the numbers really mean? Were there 18 test builds between 1.0.0.110 and 1.0.0.129?

That's like asking what the difference is between Winter and Australian Summer.... :mischief:
Well, those are titles and I'm asking about the numerical designations. Can I get an answer without sarcasm? Do they represent iterations of the build?

I ask because there have been 12 test builds so far since the Spring patch in the current testing process. The highest numerical difference between the live builds on that list is 54 between Winter and Australia. The lowest is 12 between launch and Fall. The other two differences are 18 and 19.

At the current rate of 2 builds per week, they will be on the 18th build on or around Thursday, July 27th. They have been holding this rate since early June. The testing for the previous phases took less time, but had a higher rate of build updates, from every other day to every day.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be sarcastic (lighthearted, yes), I was indicating that I'm not sure you can extrapolate *any* logic from Firaxis throughout the Civ 6 release until now. I'm finding their lack of communication more and more disappointing every day.

You shouldn't be having to guess at all of this. They should make the information readily available.

Yes, there was most likely that many major internal test builds. However, without knowing Firaxis' specific versioning procedures there possibly could have been fewer (If they skipped numbers) or more (If they had many minor builds) versions in-between those two releases.

okay, so I couldn't say reliably that the next DLC will release when we hit a certain number of test builds.

I would say taken by itself it's probably not a reliable indicator. However, combine that with all the "voodoo and divination" in the DLC05 Anticipation thread and you could probably extrapolate a more reliable release estimate.

Well, at the current rate, it would reach the 18th build at the date that is possible, although perhaps too optimistic, July 27th.

Speaking as a game dev, generally speaking the minor number will increase for every build. If you tracked the steam-db updates, I'm guessing you would find a fairly close relationship between the number of times a steamdb was updated, and the difference in build numbers between versions.

Sometimes numbers are "skipped". For us, that would be a case where maybe we start a build, then cancel it for some issue. Or sometimes we may finish a build but use it for a personal testing opportunity, so we don't update our steam depot with that version. So just because they've updated the steamdb 12 times doesn't mean the current internal version number is .141 - it's almost certainly at least that high, but may be higher.

As for how many test builds between releases, that would never be a reliable indicator. You can see in their case it has been around 18 as the min between successive patches, but that's not to say that that has to be the min. For the one I work on, we run much more frequent patches, but will often go a long time without running internal test builds, so sometimes a patch may be only 2-3 build numbers higher than the last one. Sometimes it will be 10-20 away.

When I look in Civilization, it has the version number at the low left corner.
But also another number behind it in parentheses. What does that number signify?
