One of the things that really helped me learn civ5 was to watch youtubers with 1000+ hours of experience in the game. That and the war academy on the civ5 forums. I haven't been able to find as good resources for civ6, does anyone have any reccomendations?
I really enjoyed filthy robot's civ5 material, but he didn't stick with civ6 enough to produce many advanced videos.
Something akin to the legendary "3 cities tradition food focused approach" guide for civ 5 BNW would be appreciated too.

Type in Civilization VI deity and you will find atleast some games in which players beat deity which mean they are doing something right. Unfortunally for me Civ VI is quite boring game to watch on youtube.

The problem is that Civ VI is mainly a "math" game. It is slow, predictable and perhaps the worst thing about it is the lack tension. From turn 1 to turn 200 (or so) you know what is going to happen if a decent player play the game giving little reason to watch such videos.

Marbozir and Arumba doesn't play Civ 6 anymore. Quill18 has a Nubia game going on currently on YT. Quill also stream sometimes, but streamed games tend to lack focus, due to that the streamer is tending chat, subscribed money and all that, so I can't recommend the stream, unless you want some entertainment. Other, perhaps less known people is Mighty Marsh and Hadrian. They are both good players that knows the game well. Perhaps not "deity lesson one on one", but still good players that varies their game style between games (more interesting to lock at that way). Quill tend to do use same game style in all his games. Quill talk tactics and strategy a lot in his games. Less so of course in his streamed games (his current Nubia game isn't a streamed game).

In all honesty I've found much of the content on You Tube to be lackluster and there's far better info on the forums, although much of it is dispersed through several (some now dead) threads.

True, that is one of the reasons I don't watch Quill for example anymore, to much same all, same all. Like a civ factory. But, forums these days (even including this one) tend to have a fair share of whiners and trolls. If you find some good youtubers, you can learn a lot by watching (and some are even entertaining at the same time) and you don't have to dig through all the whining and trolling threads.

Unfortunally civ games are amongst those type of games that tend to become repetitive. Mad scientist who roleplayed civ iv did add alot of flavor to his games but unfortunally most players just play the game as it is which make it boring to watch as you have seen the same stuff over and over again.

As I said before civ lack stuff that keep a game interesting, I mean in chess the closer you come to victory the closer you come to defeat. In civ the closer you come to victory the further away you come to defeat which mean the most interesting part is the early game, the late game is just boring. Without the possibility to lose there is really nothing of interest which is a big reason why I nowdays prefer games with "simpler" rules and more randomness as the problem with determinism is very apparent in games such as civ.

It is very ironic that some relative simple games may actually be the ones most interesting to watch.

Square Triangle Mouse (known here on these forums as DrCron, I think?) has some excellent high skill level SP Deity runs (i.e. not just beating the AI but running challenges, fast victories, etc.).

Filthyrobot was the go-to for MP strategies, his livestreamed games and guides (which can be found on Youtube) are also excellent to watch for single player gamers though. Sadly he hasn't posted civ 6 content in a while, so some of his information is out of date.

GamerZakh usually publish some videos when new Civ content is released. Not the most experienced player, but he has a very smooth, buttery voice, and does a decent job keeping things interesting.

I still enjoy watching Quill from time to time, but honestly I'd rather play Civ6 rather than watch it. I mostly watched the first looks before the game came out. I find his personality to be pleasing to watch. Though I don't know how he has time to play all these games. I wonder if these people have normal jobs, and many of them say they have wives and gf's as well. How do they do it?

I haven't watched in a long time, but I'm thinking about checking out his Nubia Let's plays. My big issue now is I don't have time to play the game and watch the game. I just don't have enough entertainment time. I already gave up TV for gaming, because there simply isn't time to do both.

Two others I watch are MadDjinn & Drew Durnill. Both have a variety on their channels but do have some fun Civ VI videos.

I learned a lot from Filthyrobot on both 5 and 6 in such a short amount of time. It is unfortunate that the videos stopped.

Quill18 always posts good let's play videos and twitch streams which he posts later. He's good fun to listen to, makes mistakes as well as being a good player and he regularly provides really good insights. Also recommend Marbozir and Arumba

Quill18 is superb on youtube, I actually learnt so much about CivVI by watching his lets play and live streams on twitch and helped me understand the game a lot more. He explains things very well and he also makes it fun to. He makes mistakes to like we all do but he explains why and learns from it and that helps you learn as well.

Of course I have been watching Quill's Nubia youtube vids, and it's funny some of the mistakes he makes and gets away with. Some of it is bad AI that doesn't take advantage of opportunities and seems coded to go in a specific location regardless of any opportunities that come up. For example, he left an unescorted settler right next to an enemy Varu in I believe it was episode 3, but the Varu ignored it. It was kind of funny considering how many settlers he stole from India by that point. It goes to show that even Deity level games can be forgiving of mistakes.

He goes pretty fast, which accounts for other mistakes he makes. And he has a bad habit of ignoring granaries forever. Or maybe I just build too many of them. I know it's difficult when there are so many worthwhile things to build.

:) Ah why does he not build the granaries. Not sure why but it frustrates me so much he ignores them for 100 turns or never builds them. Otherwise yes he does play fast but i find that in his lets plays, when he is streaming on twitch he takes much more time and care, maybe because he is also in chat live so people put ideas forward and he discusses.
Those settlers were funny, India just kept sending them over and then didnt take his. I think India is just having a bad game though i havent had this in any of my games since the new patch.

I read Quill quit his job to become a full time "professional gamer" ...seriously i wish i could do that :) he used to be a programmer

Man, all the power to people who like to watch them and who like to make them, but is that really unique to civ6? Watching people play a video game? I mean geez, I know I'm in a minority here so I am sorry if this is coming through as harsh in any way. Obviously people get something out of watching someone play an hours-long game that I don't.
