I have a problem with having a settlement, and another European settlement or two will get close and they will actually overtake several of my tiles from a settlement. I still keep the settlement, but I can't reap the benefits of the land. Is there a way to counter this? Or take the tiles back?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to increase your culture by putting a statesman in your town hall to produce liberty bells.

The other alternative of course is to declare war and wipe out that annoying settlement.
