Very simple problem

I think the problem here is very simple, I'm just not smart enough to see it.

I installed Civ4 on my computer, then tried to play it. That didn't seem to work but the short-cut icon looked weird so I rebooted. The desktop came up and the icon looked fine. I tried again. Didn't like it. I opened the DVD-rom drive, just to make sure Disc 2 was in. It was. And, because installation requires both discs, I know it's working. So I decide to put in Disc 1. The screen pops up and one of the options is "Play", so I click it, and am told to put in disc 2. I do that. The program closes as it is claimed the disc is unreable......

This is making my Christmas very sad, indeed. Any one want to save this son of Meier's holidays from the grinch of technical difficulties?

Thanks a bunch,
-Maslow

My play disc is labeled "Disk 1 / Install". It sounds like you've tried that though. You may want to give the ol' uninstall/reinstall thing a go if you're still not able to play, as you said your icons looked unusual after the 1st install.
And have a Merry Christmas anyway! :D

I read someplace that there were some disks shipped with the "play" on the wrong disk.
I had trouble running civ4 because it kept saying it can't find the python*.dll, which was right there! But when I tried starting the game with the civ4 window open (not from the desktop icon) it ran fine :) Weird eh?

However, now it says there's an error in cvgamecoredll.dll and won't run! Heeeelllppp!

Yep, I pre-ordered my game and Disk 1 is the Install disk and Disk 2 is the Play disk but to play the game I have to have Disk 1/Install in the drive.

Just try doing the uninstall/reinstall trick. After complete install it will ask you to put disk 1 back in the drive. Make sure you do this and then try to launch the game when it ask you if you want to play.
