Victory Condition Editing

So...I started a new game the other day...and obviously forgot to check off the lightning victory conditions. Not a fan of them at all. I can see how some could like them, just not for me.

Anyways, I ended up winning a Lightning Cultural victory about 700 turns into my marathon game. Not what I had in mind.

I checked out the civ ini file and there is a victory conditions setting in there...so two questions:

a) Can I simply change the 1 to a 0 and turn off the victory conditions listed in there, reload my game and continue on?

b) Are the values for the victory condition setting in the same order as they appear on the custom game setup screen? (meaning is condition #6 in the ini file setting is the 6th to appear in the list on the setup screen)

Actually, checking this out a little further, there seems to be an extra value in the .ini file...11 values there, only 10 options in the custom setup screen. Bleh.

Any chance of changing victory conditions in an already saved game?

Editing the .ini file won't do anything at this point. You may be able to do something by editing the victory conditions XML file. Disabling them outright might cause bugs, but if you edit the requirements for the victories to be higher then the normal ones, then it might work.

Thanks, I will try both methods and report back.

As much as I would like to continue the game, I'm more curious at this point if the VC's can be gotten around at all.

You can choose which to enable during Custom Game launches. It ought to select the standard VCs in a PLAY NOW, and have the standard ones selected by default in Custom Game, except if you are playing one of our earlier (or unpatched) releases, I had the new ones listed after the old ones then and it caused it to default to the new stuff.
