Victory Problem

Hi,

I'm running Civilization III: Complete on Vista, and it won't seem to let me go through all of the victory screens after conquests. I played the 3 beginning tutorial conquests and got through them just fine, victory screens and all, but I tried the Mesopotamia one as well as WWII in the Pacific, and both times after I won the game crashed after the Victory/Histogram screen. It says "Civilization III...has stop working..." then it "unexpectedly closes." Help or advice?

I have complete on Vista as well, and I had the same problem with the 'Age of Discovery' conquest. I thought it was just a random crash, so I ignored it. Now someone else has had the problem I dont know. Maybe its a problem with the senario folder?

Do you have the proper rights? Sounds to me like the game is trying to update the HoF/Conquests files and doesn't have write access to it.

That was the only time I have ever had the problem, and the only Conquest scenario I've played. It is on my laptop, and I have the only account. I will try running as administrator, even though it should anyway...

IIRC, there has been a problem reported with the HOF file being accidentally set to Read-Only....

Find the file. It'll be in the same directory as your Conquests.exe file. (Or CivilizationIII.exe file) The name of the file is CampaignRecord.hof. Right click on it, and make sure it doesn't have the Read Only box checked.

I'm not sure if this is the Vista or XP location, but:

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Civilization III Complete\Conquests\CampaignRecord.hof

Go to properties, uncheck 'Read Only' then click 'Apply' and 'OK'
