Try not to hit your computer screen. I don't think this blithering poltroon actually means to be an idiot. But he somehow manages to get there, anyway.

If you can handle grinding your teeth for an 11 minute video, there's a few unintentional laughs here.

"I really don't deal with workers, so I just Automate."

"If there's any other civs on this island, I'm gonna whip em up so I don't have to deal with them."
Yep, instead of trading with them to not become behind in tech.

Hey, he's just stepping up the difficulty to Warlord, don't try to make him learn advanced concepts like trading, not building stupidly large numbers of Warriors/Spearmen while not building any Workers, or paying attention to things.

...

That said, if anyone's watched the whole thing, how far does he get/how well does he do? He's apparently got a YouTube channel, so I'd hate to think what the comments there are like if anyone who knows how to play started critiquing him :shudder:

Well, there has only been one LP of Civ3 I've seen that was semi-decent, all the rest are actually worse than this one and on Chieftain level, with more annoying hosts. Credit where credit is due I can actually stand to watch this guy; unlike the other LPs which appear to be done by 9 year olds.

He researches horseback riding:

Oh, I guess that means I can build horsemen now. Cool. (Subsequently whips two citizens in a core city to finish one)

And he had piles of units sitting around in cities, yet didn't bother to defend his zeroed with raging barbarians.

Although the one plus was that he built barracks, unlike some inexperienced players.

You should check out the Stories and Tales and Succession Games subfora - loads of excellent LPs, and on much higher difficulties. Of course, most are Screenshot LPs and not Video ones, but the quality is excellent.

It was good for a laugh. On the other hand, I wince at the thought of how many people will be corrupted by it. He never once checks any of the info screens - as far as I could tell, he didn't even look at the tech screen to chose his first tech let alone check out the science slider. And he is attempting to show people how to play? I'm rather amazed he manages to make it tanks even on warlord!

On the other hand, I feel much more secure in my Civving status.

Warning - if the computer gives you a settler from a GH on warlord, you are doing something wrong. Very wrong.

Oh, and 1 worker should be able to cover all the work that needs to be done for our Civ. Its more important to build that temple . . .

This link probably belongs in the 'you may be an AI civ if you . . . ' thread.

The thing that killed me was that his warrior had been knocked down to yellow--two of four hit points gone--but he kept on running the little guy around thru the jungles popping the huts and exploring. Dude, just sit still for two turns!

Especially when he talked about how lucky it was that he wasn't killed by the Barbs. I cried.

I think I would move on with a wounded warrior in the exploration phase - considering early contacts to be of more importance than the life of a warrior. And when he has done exploring I'll probably disband him anyway.
On a high level I would leave the goody huts alone with a wounded soldier, but on Warlord he'll probably survive a few more barbarian ambushes.
Not that I've seen the video, so bear in mind that I'm talking in general terms about what I would prioritize.

Somebody should link him this thread. :mischief:

And who dare diss the Mounted Warrior! [pissed]

I particularly like the part where he says "the beginning of the game is pretty boring" as he clicks away 2000 years of his Civ's life.

Someone should have told him that settling next to the horse won't do you any good if your automated worker takes until 1000 AD to hook it up.

I won't even mention the number of warriors and spears he fortified in his cities. No, its okay. Your wounded 2 hp warrior can scout the entire world unless he carelessly DIES. Ungrateful slug. Most people can heal and walk at the same time. Besides, we need to 10 warriors and 3 spears to defend the capital. I mean, it is impossible to move more than one unit per turn, right?

Come to think of it, if he could animate his military he could just sit back and cheer. No need to deal with that petty MM.

I'm about 95% certain that there is an Auto-Explore command/button.

I never knew you could call a written story about a game experience a Let's Play? I always refer to videos; and that's what I meant by it, I read many of the stories here.

Eh, of the 710 LPs at lparchive.org, 275 are screenshot LPs. Some of those are hybrids, of course. Interestingly, the Civ4 LP they have is a screenshot one.

I used the link in the OP, but my browser did not allow the ActiveXs of that site to run on my PC.

Here is the same enlighted explanation of CivIII Gold on youtube:

Link to video.

Warlord?
He is playing chieftain. The moment I started go angry was the moment he said he needs a rax because he plays Japan and actually builds it. Then the temple comes.

In addition the guy has no clue what commerce is for and then is the automated worker issue.
Even in my first game ever I played better (based on my civ2 experience) to beat standard archipelago on warlord.

Warlord?
He is playing chieftain.

He's at Warlord. At 3:31 he says "We'll move the difficulty up a little bit here," and sets it to Warlord. Granted, he does that *very* quickly, but he's not at Chieftain.
