Video: an idiot plays Civ3

Oooh, 750 AD and still researches Mapmaking, well thats what roadless civs are known for :) However he's motivated in his own ways and has fun, we should always respect that.

And compared to my experience where I tried to teach my classmate basics of Starcraft (basics of ANY gaming perspective really) this guy is even above average. He quickly pointed out the crazy, unbelieveably, insanely powerful stats of Berserks. :D

But ignored the fact that they were nearly twice the price of Longbows. Strong, yes - but you're going to be paying for that, and he doesn't mention it in that case.

He's not a "newbie," though - he's played the game for several years IIRC (I'm pretty sure he says it in the video somewhere). And if you're defending him by saying that a newbie would see the stat difference but not notice the cost difference, he *should* be pointing that out.

Also, more harping about his gaff with the Berserkers: he mentions not being sure if the stats are mistakes! That is precisely *why* Berserkers cost so much relative to Lbows.

I only looked at a few minutes, but the game was setup at Chief and he said he has never moved up a level in all those years. He starts with automating the worker. Moves the warrior all over and never let it heal during the turns I watched.

He then shows the town and says he is not aware of what the shields and things are all about. No wait at end of turn and on and on. I submit this is the type of behavior you can expect from most people on most things.

No thought put into what they are doing, no examination of actions and little looking around for information. I say let them have their fun. Should they want to get better understanding of the game, it is not hard to find help. I think that is what Google does quite well, finding post on whatever you are interested in learning about.

At any rate I find it a little pointless to measure his skill or expect many strategical thoughts. It's an LP and we are clearly not the intended audience.

Civfanatics is unimpressed by his culture! Though some members are dismissive of.

Abaddon, I never knew you were so horrible! :nono:

I love how large his empire appears to be in 800 AD in part 8 from what I can make out.

Also, I posted this thread on his channel wall. :mischief:

That's just cruel
Spoiler :
but soooooo appropriate. My gosh, how many warriors can a guy have?

What's even better is that when he finally decides he has enough of them he begins to disband spearmen . . . while his other cities are producing . . . wait for it . . . more spearmen.

I was also waiting for him to reconnect the horse-road to his main empire. That never happened. I guess automated workers have better things to do then re-road an area they have already done once and you let the barbs pillage.

Got to wonder if he ever figured out that, while playing a game in despotism can be done, it is not exactly recommended. :)

In his defense, he straight out says he is no good at the game and he does say that Civ3 is the best game ever. So though he may be misguided, at least he is honest.

And I have watched up to Part 9. It is like watching a train wreck. I just can't look away . . . and it looks like there are at least 43 parts?

It is interesting how he segways into a new beginning.

BTW - if you look closely, his first game is at warlord. It is easy to miss, but it is warlord - you can see the select move to warlord right before he starts the game - since he does almost everything by keyboard, it is hard to see it. His subsequent games are started on chieften, however.

I really hope he posts here... :mischief:

In all fairness to this guy, he reminds me of how I played Civ3 before I found this forum. He has fun, but isn't quite sure of what he is doing or why things work out the way do.

He might if he wasn't scared off by us copying this post for him. Hopefully we can get him to Regent by changing a couple of simple things.

When I started to play I did better than him because I was dumber! I didn't realize you could automate workers so I never did. One of the cases where ignorance is bliss.

City Governor was my crutch. I always loved moving my workers around. I can't say that my first game went much better then his. Its only been a year since I joined up here and I was lurking for maybe another 6-12 months before that. Now I'm trying PTW Diety. I look back at 2007 when I first got the game and, after beating my first warlord board I thought 'Yah, Deity. That's never going to happen. Stupid programmers - why even bother putting something so absurd in the game.'

All its flaws taken into consideration, I think it is a tribute to the game that he was willing to demo it to the world even if he wasn't so good at it. Anything that brings in more players is a good thing.

Or course I'm not about to stop making fun the videos. They're just too darn priceless!

I have to be honest before I came here I would tend to automate my workers, but I did build more than one.

I am disappointed to see some of the negativity coming from some people here about his skill at Civ. At least he has fun and wants to share it with people. If you can do so much better, perhaps you should make your own Let's Play and show him how it's done. :p

If I knew how to make a Let's Play Video and had the technology to do so, I would make my own "Let's Play Video". Though, I agree. It doesn't seem appropriate to call this guy names.
