Okay. So one of my friends has like Windows 98 or 95, and all it has.

I tried giving him some video files, and it says type: video file.

All he has is Windows Media Player, the old one, but he says when he opens the file he just hears the video but gets no picture. He tried VLC to the same effect, and I got him a codec pack, but that didn't work. I tried getting him divxplay from divx.com or whatever the site is, but it was incompatible.

Any reason why?

Well he doesn't have internet on his old computer, since his Christian parents are afraid he'd do bad stuff or what not, I just feel sorry for him because of that.:(

Hmmm. I'd recommend Media Player Classic, small program (<1.5Mb, so fits on a floppy disk), works quiet fine, the best program I've ever tried to open 'tricky' video and audio files (I mean, if one program usually can open a file, it's MPC -- if it can't I usually give up almost instantly ;p)
And if it can't read a video file (or just the audio or video from it), it will tell you what codec is missing.

Or else : why don't you run that 'GSpot' (never heard of it before :p) on your own computer, then download the appropriate codec, and send the codec to your friend ????

Cheers, hoping that helped

ZiP!
