I just played a day of the Viking scenario. Very well designed, immersive and fun to play. On deity, it's also a bit of a challenge. I started with Sweden and barbarian hordes really make it feel like an achievement to win (and AIs tend to grab those great admirals earlier). Norway is much easier.
But here's a challenge: as true Vikings might have dreamt of doing, could you actually conquer Francia or Byzantium in this scenario (deity difficulty)? Have you done it and if yes, how did you accomplish it?
I love to find something that requires effort to accomplish. So although it's not a game objective as such, I'd like to hear if you've managed this on deity. The Caballarii / Knight spam is real and the lack of ranged sea vessels adds to the challenge.
I'll report back if I manage it but meanwhile - do tell if you've already gone and conquered all of Francia or all of Byzantium. If not, give it a try - it's a fun challenge!
Finally after three tries I managed to conquer Francia while also winning the game. It was one of the biggest Civilization challenges ever for me. The 'Vikings' is a truly magnificent scenario, I love it to bits. If you want to experience warfare in Civ VI, then play this scenario on deity. I guarantee you will have to really work at it if you go after Francia or Byzantium.
I feel here's an opportunity for a little challenge: I'd like to hear about your success in beating either Francia or Byzantium on deity difficulty. That means conquering the total empire - every city and every unit - while also winning the scenario based on the normal victory conditions that it has.
Come on guys and girls, let's have some fun
(As for me, I'm going to see if I can conquer both Francia and Byzantium in one game... Or at least Francia and the Andalusian caliphate.)
