Im using the home premium version of Vista and I was wondering if there was a way I could make certain hot keys do certain things, for example, I want to able to push say, control+A to start Mozilla Firefox, of Control+S to open up my documents, is there any way I can do this?

You could use Launchy. Alt+Spacebar then you start typing in the application name, and it launches it for you.

The whole point is to be quicker than just clicking on the icon........

what keyboard do you have? many have software that will launch a selection of programs for you

<start key> + <e> starts Windows Explorer
<start key> + <f> starts Windows Search
<start key> + <r> starts Windows Run

and there may be others i don't know about.

Well, I didn't know that. Thought you just wanted to be free of the mouse.

I would seriously hope that you don't find programs to let you do that, but I'm sure someone out there has probably been foolish enough to write one. The problem is that you're stepping on the toes of fairly standardized keyboard shortcuts. Ctrl-A is Select All. Ctrl-S is Save. Essentially all of the fairly easy to reach keyboard combos are in use for something in most programs.

Your best bet is to buy a decent keyboard with extra keys that are configurable to open programs or do other actions (almost all of the MS keyboard can do this).

Right click the shortcut icon, click Properties, then you can put a shortcut key combo into the appropriate box, which is labelled "Shortcut Key".

You can't do Ctrl + S, though, only Ctrl + Alt + S, Ctrl + Shift + S, or Alt + Shift + S.

Ctrl + Shift + C used to open Civ II way back when :D
