Vote for your Top 3 Leaders!

ok - we have 12 members that have voted out of the 14 that have introduced themselves in the Members Lounge.

That 86% turnout! Not too shabby

Of course - we've still got a little over 24 hours to finalize this list, if any other Team 3 Members want to vote?

If not... here's the Team 3 Top 5 List list:
  1. William VanOranje of the Dutch Empire (23 points)
  2. Hannibal of Carthage (10 points)
  3. Darius of Persia (8 points)
  4. Victoria of England (6 points, 3 votes)
  5. Mehmed II -or- Hatshepsut (6 points, 2 votes each)

@M_H - want to break the tie for 5th place? :)

I'm on board...haven't found the members lounge yet...but it sounds like fun!

I don't really have preference for leader.

William Van Orange is strong and would be fun to play...I haven't read all the threads yet...do we know what the map type is? Watery map makes William even more attractive.

Pacal II is very strong...Expansive for fast building workers and growing cities...cheap granaries for growing quickly or slaving if necessary...Financial speaks for itself!

Suryavarman II is also very good...the same Expansive trait as Pacal II and the same Creative as William... any of those 3 would be great to play.

The way to approach the question IMO is to go after traits that we believe will be beneficial...and find the leaders that fit the bill.

...all difficulty levels from noble upwards have the same happy and health limits...
Anion's Civ4: BtS Reference Guide, a fine document with a lot of work put into it, says:

Noble____+3:health: +5:)
Prince____+2:health: +4:)
Monarch__+2:health: +4:)
Emperor__+1:health: +3:)
Immortal_+1:health: +3:)
Deity____+1:health: +3:)

But that's not as big of difference as I was thinking. Could be incorrect data too?

That documents wrong. It's base 4 happy and 2 health from Noble to Deity (I jsut checked in game as well).

I would like to change my leader vote.

1. Zara Yaqob
2. Pacal II
3. Julius Caesar

Hopefully we won't fall as low as #5!

Thanks for voting Ronnie1.
Your votes didn't change the outcome of the Top 5 - but it's good to have you participating!

Also - Thanks for the tie-breaker m_h :salute:

Here's an update:

Team SANCTA Top 5 List:
  1. William VanOranje of the Dutch Empire (23 points)
  2. Hannibal of Carthage (10 points)
  3. Darius of Persia (8 points)
  4. Victoria of England (6 points, 3 votes)
  5. Hatshepsut of Egypt (6 points, 2 votes + tiebreaker)

Technically we are now tied for the 4th and 5th place; both equal on points and number of votes.

Actually - if you count m_h's tiebreaker as a real vote, then Hatty moves up to at least 7 points and a solid 4th place. :D

Count the tie-breaker vote as a half 0-point vote - problem solved and list order maintained. :)

 Woot!

We'll have to start the analysis of our opponents here soon ;)

It sure looks like some tough opposing leaders - four of them are financial, which doesn't surprise me, and the last is a master at REX'ing.

Totalling up the traits I get:
4 financial
2 expansionist
1 philosophical
1 imperialistic
1 creative
1 organized
no industrious, protective, aggressive or charismatic leaders

So basically our borders will meet little resistance in the early game and we'll have as a good a shot for wonders as anyone. Also, everyone is on equal footing with promotions.

No one starts with myst either, so no one is going to get an "early" religion either...most likely a team will try to time the founding of a religion to be a turn after they settle the first city. Oracle slingshot is also open because of this...and hopefully some team wastes time getting henge fairly early and slowing themselves down.

Actually, the Mayan start with Mysticism...

Equal on footing with promotions, except Joao has the Imperialistic trait (higher great general emergence). Joao's UB also replaces the Custom's House which comes with Economics, which also allows said building. They will most likely go this route and build their UB as well as adopt Free Market to make the most of it.

The Mayan are Team 5...does anyone know if they are likely to go for the Oracle or Stonehenge? If they were likely to go Stonehenge then we would still have a shot at a Slingshot. Any insider info on this one, anybody?

Other than that, it seems we should hope for England to suffer damage before the Renaissance to create a problem for them bringing their Redcoats online. If I were getting ready to put some smack down I'd save a bunch of money up to upgrade all my guys soon as I had rifling. If someone were to impede their production and drain their finances while they were building up to that point...that might make a well crafted plan come to pieces.

Also, noted above, no one else has the Creative trait which also means we're the only ones that get half-price Libraries. This, alone, could seal the CS Slingshot as long as we could get Oracle.

The only 2 people I'm familiar with on team 5 are Peter Grimes and DaveShack.
Peter's a skilled diplomat - but not an uber civ player.
I'm not really sure what Daveshack's civ skills are like, but my impression is that he's pretty good - though more focused on C3C.

We should be aware of the fact that a Civil Service sling-shot now requires Math as well as Code of Laws.
In my experience, this means there's NO way to pull off a CS slingshot against opponents who know what they're doing.

If team 5 tries this, banking on their head-start with mysticism, it'll be easy to beat them to the Oracle with some other tech choice for free.

But who knows? :dunno:
I think there will be a big race to the Oracle, thanks largely to Team Epsilon's highly successful translation of a CivilService Slingshot into a lasting game-long advantage.
