VQ Series Discussion thread

I think that if we're going to tackle the SGOTM, I don't think we'll start VQ06 too soon...

I was actually going to suggest that. Maybe wait until VQ05 finishes? (Not that I'm in VQ05)

Roster count for SGOTM:
-- ChrTh, GreyFox, Bobrath, Maquis.

If no more VQers want to join. I'll like to introduce namliaM to the VQ camp.

Didn't Eektor sign up?

I don't know if there is number of members limit though.

I think they're aiming at 6 person teams... but its up to the organizers.

welcome namliaM!

You're welcome to be the 6th member of the for the SGOTM. Hopefully we will hear something soon about team sizes, etc.

In other VQ news... we'll be finishing up VQ04 very soon (tomorrow maybe?) Also VQ05 seems to be spinning its wheels, which disapoints me a bit. Hopefully we can get things churning again.

The rosters have been posted on page 10 of the sign-up thread, Team VQ looks right (Maquis may want to double-check) so I believe we're good to go.

Yeah, the VQ team looks good to go from the SGOTM! I hope they'll put up our threads soon, so we can start discussing what to do. Should we also plan out a turn order? Other than GreyFox, I don't know of anyone else not in the states? (edit: I see namliaM is in Europe)

Of course in all the VQ games, I have rolled the start, but in the SGOTM, I would be up to letting someone else start.

I think you already miss the chance to actually "roll" a start (I think Alan will do that ;)) so I wouldn't want to ursurp your privillege of actually starting the turns  ...

to the rest of VQers: Actually, the first few turns are the most boring ones, so let Maquis do it ... shh ... but don't tell him that!

the first few turns are the most boring ones, so let Maquis do it

They may be the most boring, but they may also be pretty crucial. That's why I want to be able to talk about the start... what initial research, initial build(s)...

Also, in the sign-up thread, ChrTh was appointed spokesperson for the VQ group.

It looks like I have been usurped!!

I'll get that corrected. I'm pretty sure in my sign-up post I indicated you would be spokesperson.

EDIT:
I just saw this:
The Teams may choose their own Captains once they are assembled, but I need a spokesperson for each team now.

We'll still make you our Captain (unless GreyFox tries to steal votes from you ;) )

2nd EDIT:
They switched it. Enjoy! :)

Since this is the VQ Series discussion thread, and we are team VQ in the SGOTM, I see no reason why we shouldn't start discussing it here.

Looking at what's been posted so far, I have four comments:

1)
...wins the game at the earliest game date with either domination or a diplomatic victory

It looks like we need to choose either one or the other, we can't attempt to pursue both (unless we're looking at backdoor domination) because being domination-oriented will make it very tough to be diplomatic. Obviously we don't need to decide before we start, but we'll have to choose pretty early.

2)
While I support the idea of there being a "winner", I really don't want us to be ultra-serious about winning. I'd rather we have fun and lose than win but us all hating each other.

3)
If we decide to do Diplomatic, we have got to discuss everything and everyone has to pay attention. Seriously. One bad decision can cost you the diplo victory (go read CTIV-3 if you don't believe me). If you want an example of how to win diplomatic, go read CTIV-7 (done at Monarch level).

4) I think it goes without saying that GreyFox will be the last person on the team to play and that he will have to Just Press Enter.

EDIT:
This just posted in the main SGOTM thread:
Given the number of new teams we have, I think I'd better open the team threads today to provide rallying and discussion locations, with temporary team names as listed.

Great to hear that they're opening the team threads now!

The only reason I wasn't going to post too much strategy is so that there are not too many "wandering eyes" since the GOTM folks seem to frown on others reading your strategy. Like we care, right!

Anyways:

1) I agree that we need to decide which route to go, diplomatic vs. domination. A couple thoughts here: We're always war with Inca, and always peace w/ someone. We will have to be very careful if we go Diplo, since whomever gets friendly with Inca will be our enemy. On the flip side, if we can get others angry with Hyana, that will help us that much more.

For Domination, we would have to make sure that our ally doesn't get too big, since we can't attack them.

We can't make the decision too early, because we have no idea what kind of map we have. We would probably have someone else on a different contient, so that we could not get to a really early domination.

2) Yes yes yes! I don't care about having the winning time game-wise, I think we all agree here this is for fun, just as any of our prior SGs.

3) See my long-winded reply to #1.

4) And if we delay the game slightly to pass it to him, we'll miss the best win date by one turn!
