VQ Series Discussion thread

Well I post some thoughts on strategy on the team thread when it opens up but for now in response to ChrTh and Maquis.

1) I agree we should definitely decide whether to go diplomatic or domination before we start the game. If we go diplomatic, I still think we should try to take out the Incans (hopefully they are closest to us) quickly and then work on choosing the right allies to win.

For domination we could do a permanent alliance with our always peace civilization, so we don't have to worry about them becoming too big. (I think I better check again to see if permanent alliance is enabled. Otherwise Maquis has a good point.)

2) I would like us to try our best to win, but I don't want us ultra serious and not having fun. Also, I wouldn't want us chewing each other for each mistake made. Pointing out what could have been done to better someone's game is alright. Oh and see point 4 too :)

3) I agree we would need to be very careful on which civilizations we need to appease or to reject all demands.

4) I have no problem with delaying the game so that GreyFox "just has to press enter" to win. :D

Quoted from SGOTM said:
...wins the game at the earliest game date with either domination or a diplomatic victory
by the same quote one can distile that there is a good chance the two are quite evenly matched....

While I support the idea of there being a "winner", I really don't want us to be ultra-serious about winning. I'd rather we have fun and lose than win but us all hating each other.

I couldnt agree more :)

1) I agree that we need to decide which route to go, diplomatic vs. domination. A couple thoughts here: We're always war with Inca, and always peace w/ someone. We will have to be very careful if we go Diplo, since whomever gets friendly with Inca will be our enemy. On the flip side, if we can get others angry with Hyana, that will help us that much more.
This also means... Get down and :hammer: Hyuna, before WW gets to bad...
1) We are on seperate continents, bad ...
2) Same continent and/or near position on a pangea like thing... Bad or good Depends... Not to close hopefully...
3) Islands or something... Allways in human favour...

While on the subject, I have never even tried getting a perminant alliance with the AI... Dont even know what tech one needs and what would take an AI into signing one...

For Domination, we would have to make sure that our ally doesn't get too big, since we can't attack them.
If we have perm alliance IIRC the land gets added together... I seem to recall a 1cc domination victory that way...

We can't make the decision too early, because we have no idea what kind of map we have. We would probably have someone else on a different contient, so that we could not get to a really early domination.

Ok, back to "normal" VQ series discussion (since the SGOTM discussion in now in our thread in the SGOTM forum)

Anyone up for joining in VQ05? One player (Woobi) has been MIA for almost 2 weeks, so I'll have to drop him. First blood has been shed, so it might be a good time to step in!

Let's give namliaM a shot at a roster spot first (so he can get used to playing with VQ players) ... but if namliaM doesn't want it, I guess I can step in :D

Thanks but no thanks... I am swamped at the moment...

I really want to put in a good job in the SGOTM and have 2 more SGs going and 1 starting....

+ GF is complaining a little of not enough 'quality' time allready... otherwise I would have jumped at the chance...

So this thread has been dead too long...

Who's interested in starting up VQ06? We could either go for one of my goofy variants (I hope they're still fun) or we could try to really bump up the diffuculty, maybe to emporer?? We all know how things are going on Monarch with the SGOTM...

I may not start until VQ05 is finished, but that is getting closer to wrapping up...

I'd still like to try my snake based variant at some point, but a higher difficulty would be a good learning experience too.

I definitely say wait until after VQ05 since it seems like it may be fighting-heavy starting with my turn :mischief: ... I would like to try Emperor, maybe we should just do a "Just Win"?

I'd be up for a "just win" at emperor. I know I've tried a few SP games at emperor, and always find that I have fallen too far behind at the start of the AD's. Must still be expanding too fast or something, I just couldn't seem to keep up in techs.

Let's do a Emperor Just Win. Actually I won't mind starting right now (obviously, I should be scheduled after I'm back in the pocket).

Well by the time you're back in the pocket we should be done with VQ05 :p

Emperor just win it is! (Maybe we'll get your snake variant in VQ07 bob)

So who's in?

Maquis
ChrTh
GreyFox
bobrath

Any other VQ vets in? Let's plan on starting in about a week or so...

Hi there. :)

I obviously ain't no VQ-Vet, but I'd like to join in for an "emperor-just win".

Well I haven't even played monarch yet ... But I'd still like to take the challenge. I'll be out of pocket from June 12th to 15th. And I'd definitely have to rely on your strategic advice ;) ...

On my playing style: Up 'til today I've mainly achieved cultural victories. I've preferred Terra (or more recently: Continents) as map style. For further Infos - just ask ;).

Regards, dot

Ditto, if you are accepting non-VQ vets. Having finished an Emperor SG not long ago, appetite has been whetted for more... :crazyeye:

Yikes.... everyone's looking to jump on board for this one... must be the challenge of Emperor...

Maquis
ChrTh
GreyFox
bobrath

Scowler
namliaM

Is 7+ to many? Not sure how far apart turnsets would come. We might have to flip a couple coins here... :)
