is it coming out today or tomorrow (10-29-2002)
I'll buy it right away.
I don't remember times when I was waiting for game to come out and to buy it same day.

I phoned my local EBGames outlet an hour ago, and they said it will be on store shelves Oct 31st here in Edmonton.

It is my understanding that the Oct 29 date is the shipping date only - it still requires time to get to retailers.

I wonder if there are any Star Wars type lines anywhere for PTW. Not likely, but that would be great if there were. You'd have a bunch of civ geeks dressed like their favorite leader or advisor. Of course there would be several people with laptops playing the game while waiting in line.

You guys are lucky you have retailers who know what's going on. I called my local Frye's. The response I got: "Ummm... uuuhh... gee, i dunno... uuh.."

Yeah, here I would be suprised to find any 'clamoring' for it.. I remember going to the mall and picking Civ III off a well-supplied shelf the day it came out and having the clerk say, "You're the first to come pick one of these up. What kind of game is it?"

Of course since then that store has moved on to a new location...

well I think majority of people listen stupid music and pley even stupidier games. Just look what is on "top 10" .

Indeed.

Consider how much Blizzard sells compared to Firaxis. I suppose WC3 is not an idiot game, but it takes a lot more "focus", "concentration", etc. to play civilization.

Well, I'm not sure WC3 requires less focus or concentration than Civ, but it requires less thought.

When it comes to stupid games, look no further than the venerable Deer Hunter series  Or that recent Britney's dance beat or whatever it was called.

Luckily, unlike tcjsavannah, I have competent staff at my local store. They know all of their games.

I went to Wal-Mart at midnight tonight hoping to get it only to find out that that truck comes in the morning. There were others there too, but waiting for GTF: Vice City.

I was wondering how many people would go to their local stores on Tuesday just to see if it's there.. of course I would never do such a thing... I'll just wait here and let you guys come back and tell me if it's there or not. :)

Well, I won't be able to get it until next week and that would be earliest possible

My pay day is Thursday. So I won't be able to buy it before. Too bad.

Anyway it will only arrive in Romania in two months or so, and that's if it doesn't sell out in Europe or the US.

I think I'll order it on-line an pay the hefty shipment fee.

since it'll take a minimum three weeks, i'll read your posts and decide later.

Good luck playing

HEY! I love Blizzard games, d*mn it!

Well, not so much the Diablos, but I love Starcraft and Warcraft 1 and 2 (haven't played 3 yet).

Those games aren't bad at all.

Hey, don't worry RobOz, didn't mean to seem as if I was bashing blizzard games. Just commenting on the fact that they require less contemplative thinking. They're really apples & oranges - Civ requires lots of planning and has incredible depth, Blizzard strategy games require more tactical skill and quick decision making. Quite frankly, I've probably played more Starcraft than any game except Civ II.

Since I play all my games on a laptop, I've never gotten into the action/real time strategy games all that much. I think the last (non-sports) game I played before Civ was X-Com...

Oh, I did play that Freedom Force game that came out a while ago, but it only took like a week to finish it. Rather disappointing.

When did Amazon.com stop shipping games outside of the US? As the release date is three weeks later the Amazon.co.uk I thought I'd purchase it from them now and have it shipped over...

Could do it last year for CivIII :( Although I changed my mind as '.co.uk changed their release date at the last minute.

There is a windows version of X-com now, the first 3 games, and it's cheap! Doesn't have good sound card support though....

"The Sims" Need I say more?

Nope... but I'm gonna...

Man that is a load of crap! It wouldnt even be so bad if it wasnt for the counless RIP OFFs for "Expansions" that have been brought out for the price of a full game. And there are people who put 3 titles with "The Sims" on it in the top 10 every week month! Who are these people! :p Its the biggest sham since EA's Fifa Soccer games, that manage to come out twice yearly somehow!

rant over!

Not too many people where I live are civaddicts.

Oh sure, my history teacher is just crazy about it, but theres only about three other people in my class who play civ3.

People around where I live seem to spend no time playing these computer games. Ive never figured out what they really do do with their free time...

Edit: Oh yeah, I just remembered that some people at my school play games that I never knew existed.
