I have the same problem as shown in the official preview which was streamed some days before the release.
After some hours of playing (sometimes earlier) i get a grafical error. There is a wall of infinite height of grafical artifacts. I think some tile or a group of tiles get corrupted because i can see everything in front of the wall, but nothing behind.

Gameplay mechanic is not affected.
Iam playing with an nvidia card (gtx 280) and using the directX 10 mode of civ5.

My questions are:
1. is this a know bug?
2. Is there a solution (apart from using the direct X 9 mode)?

1. is this a know bug?
Kinda. Your GTX 280 is overheating
2. Is there a solution (apart from using the direct X 9 mode)?
Get more fresh air to your card and/or reduce its Core/Memory clock speeds

"Exit game and reload" works for me on this. I wonder how does in cool down during such a short break. So I expect this is to be from load of various loose ends in the graph buffer.

The most common sector-like artifact is the permutation of the pillar of light indicating active unit.

Anyone wasting a game with loads of useless bugged graph fertilizer should be shot on sight, IMO.

Overheating? My card is watercooled! Second the problem is not on the whole map just the half. Not problems on the other half.
When just goin to main menu, waiting for half an hour, and reaload, the artifacts are still there, ON THE SAME tiles.
BUT when going to desktop and then restarting and reloading the game (which just need 2 minutes of time), the artifacts are gone!

Ok i did not played the last days, but today i tried it again but updated my grafic drivers and got the new civ hotfix.
Iam not sure which of both helped but after 8 hours of playing i got no artifacts anymore.

Im having the same problem with my game.
1. I tried changing res. tesselation and various other stuff - nothing.
2. Im using some extra cooling stuff inside my box (additional fans, and fan heuristics) - and the logs dont show any overheating of the Geforce 8800 GTS 512 at all (and no other components as well).
3.my specs are fitting the "optimal" reqs (+updated drivers), so i dont believe its the cause of this.

where is the "hotfix" youe mentioned? is it the .20 patch? if so it didnt fix it in my case.

..i need help as im at war with the iroquis right now and seemed to finally get wind... and it looks like the *&%#*& cheaters have built the infinite wall of graphical glitches world wonder!!!

For me, defenitely one the following steps solved the problem:
- installing civ5 hotfix 1.0.0.20
- updating my nvidia grafics driver from version 196.xx to 25x.xx (iam not sure here, i took the newest version).

i think the grafics driver update did it.

btw: i have a nvidia gtx 280 (watercooled and no overheating problems, temps are normal)

Well... I double-checked the graphic drivers and that my game is in the .20ver.
Only launching in the D-x 9 istead of 10&11 fixes it...

I added two screencaps and a part of my DxDiag.txt... maybe this will help (me)...

I can confirm, i had exactly the same issue. Just in direct x 10/11. No problems with directx 9.

with or without AA turned on - the problem remains.

Do you have AA turned on as an override in your Nvidia Control Panel? Your system is very similar to mine, with the exact same GFX card, and I've now played 250+ turns/5 hours without any issues at all in DX10/DX11 since I turned off AA.

I get the same problem. I have a NV 9800GT. (latest drivers v260.99)
The game will first load that way.
It's always a different model that gets mangled. And 1 out of 3 times the game loads fine.
I haven't tried switching off the AA yet.

Only Geforces here...

One thing, from here, also about graphical problems, but other type:
I suspect this is to the NVIDIA driver version 260.99. I ran a previous version without this problem. As soon as I upgraded I saw the problem appear. I use an NVIDIA GeForce 6600.

Perhaps someone could try reverting to a previous driver (if they have one) in order to confirm this.

after 5-6 hours of gameplay without AA, all of a sudden the problem appeared while the game was running. I'm suspecting anti-aliasing may not be the problem.

It could be the latest driver. I did once have a similar problem with Lord of the Rings Online last year. The problem went away when I installed a new driver.

nvidia might be the one dropping the ball here.
any ATI people having trouble?

....begin edit...

Ok, when I tried to run the game this morning, the game started with the glitch.
This is without anti-aliasing. So, that not the problem.

Then I tried rolling back my video driver to 258.??... that didn't go so well, I don't think I did it right.
I wound up wasting an hour getting 260.99 re-installed.

Guess, I'll just have to wait for a patch that fixes this. could be the next patch, it could be a patch a year from now. either way I'm really disappointed with this version of civ. $50 down the drain.
