Want an easy way to play Civ V online? Say hello to Giant Multiplayer Robot! (GMR)

haha, I'm afraid we have to reserve that title for Brian and I, you know, being the creators and all ;)

of course, what was I thinking!? You are the GMR deities! Maybe there could be a list of Immortals, then. You know, using the difficulty levels if you wanted to gt fancy with recognising your donors. ;) I remain a settler (freeloader) for now, apart from finding bugs and making suggestions.

Even better, we're in the process of allowing you, the responsible game host, to invite other players to substitute the AI in your "in-progress" games :)

Yes that will be a great feature for hosts and for you, lots less work to do!

And it's done!

You can now invite other players to replace an AI civ in your in-progress games. Simply send them an invite to the game and they'll be able to pick which AI civ to take control of! :king:

Can they replace human player who hasnt been kicked yet?

Edit: No, it does not work on replacing human player who hasn't been kicked yet.

Edit again: I tried a risky move to play around the turn timer.

Still big thanks to GMR admin (now the GMR GODs)

Amen. :bowdown::jesus:

:thanx:

We haven't come up with another solution for kicking players other than through the turn-timer. We've thought of giving the game's host such an ability, but are worried that could be too easily abused. We could implement a voting system where players in a game vote to kick the undesired player, but that could be in-efficient if all players don't participate in it.

Do you guys have any ideas for a good way to go about this?

Actually you should be able to just re-invite them to the game now and they'll be able to join as their previous civ, taking over from the AI. Give it a try and let me know if you need any additional help :-

I am the host of this game, and I cant figure how to invite someone. There is a search bar on the right, but his name does not appear. I do not know his email adress and I cant seem to find him on civfanatics...

So either I am stupid(most likely) or...well, I dont see any other options lol

Use Steam friend search to double check spelling or additional number after the name. Then try invite all possible players with that name.

I did try that, and most people do not show, for exemple:

I cound not found me(godcyric on steam) Eee-boy or Foffaren but I could find Micheal.trnka.

Diecabe is just not showing. I could still generate an invite link, but I have no idea who he is on this forum(or even IF he come here) so I cannot send it to him by PM.

You must be using the Steam search, try the search down at your friend list, say'add a friend...'

Im not Diacabe's friend, I cannot send him a message. I was able to find him, but I have no idea how to invite him back :(

Hey LostKnight, there's apparently a bug on our side, you're definitely not stupid! :)

I have verified that for reasons yet to be discoverd Diecabe doesn't return when searching for him in our player finder, even though he is most definitely in our system! I'm going to figure this out and fix it right away. In the meantime I've manually re-instated him back into your game and reset his Skip Count.

Good luck and let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!

Alright, I've identified and fixed the bug! It was due to the fact that we don't show users in the search results that we think are already in the game or have an existing invitation to the game. Turns out our logic for this was a little off and we still thought Diecabe was already invited to the game, but it's fixed now. Thanks for your patience and helping me test this! :)

We just made two updates to GMR:

  1. We've published an update to the GMR desktop app. It will now remind you that you have turns available every so many seconds, configurable in the settings. Hopefully this will help keep you informed and stay on top of turns if you keep the app running throughout the day!
  2. You can now see how many times each player has been skipped in a given game on the website along with their average turn time.

I think I will turn #1 off, or at least set it to be very long. When it pops up, it interferes with the minimap in game. It even reminds me of the turn I'm currently playing.
