war vs. european colonists

Just for the heck of it, I declared war vs. my colonist neighbors, but couldn't wipe them out after destoying all their cities. Do I have to destroy thir ships, too? Or is there no way to eliminate them from the game?

The other Europeans will remain in the game even if you take out their ships as well. Their King will simply resupply them with another shipload of colonists.

the only real benefit to war against the other colonists is that it keeps them beat down so they lose points and you win the game. personally I think the game is very lacking in historical accuracy, so I'd recommend you check you desire for realism at the door on the way in. Unlike Civ 4 and earlier versions, the civs (colonists) don't have a limited number of "starts" before they are eliminated. The fact there are mods for Civ 4 and Civ 4 Col speaks to the lacklustre product shipped to market.
