[BTS] Warhammer Fantasy Battles

I think the mods are competiting regardless how cooperative the FfH and WH makers are. These mods are close to each other making them competitive. That´s a fact and you can´t do anything to help it.

Competition what for? I'm doing this because I have fun modding my favorite game to match my favorite theme- fantasy. Kael and the FFH team occasionally either help directly or indirectly b yproducing stuff we can use and the other way round. Also seZereth and Woodelf are members of both teams i.e. cooperation couldn't be any closer. So what competetion? Do you mean the download charts in the database? I admit I'm curious about them but they really don't have any further effect.

There are a million people that play civ (or whatever the actual big number is), of those million only a tiny percentage download mods. My goal isnt to be a leader in that tiny percentage, that doesn't really matter. I want to increase the amount of people downloading mods.

Thats good for Firaxis, good for FfH and good for Warhammer.

What can we do to increase that percentage? Right now its just make sure everyones product is as good as possible. Which is why I spend a lot of time writing how to guides.

The better each mod does the better all the others will do. Some players will try Warhammer after playing FfH and some will try FfH after playing Warhammer. But if they enjoy Warhammer they are more likely to try FfH and vise-versa. Since they are free downloads its not like a player has to choose between them. A player can have both, better for him, better for us.

But Warhammer has a special place for me because we share resources. So even beyond the marketing aspects some of the work that goes into Warhammer directly improves FfH when we share units and such. A lot of units we use in FfH were intially made for Warhammer. And Ploeperpengel has been the top outside contributor to FfH since I intially made that list.

These are both great mods (the only mods I keep playing over and over again), no competition, except for playtime. I am dual boxing, but I can't play too civ games at the same time.

300% positivly Correct! He is right, the more mods people download and try out, the better for us and him to enjoy playing this game more. Without mods, the game could get boring after completing everything. With mods, it's a fun game.

Hey all,

Downloaded and played - love the game. Love warhammer actually :D

Just a minor gripe - as the game progressed it kept slowing my system, more so than Civ normally does - I'm not really sure why. More importantly, I was getting some of the graphics dimming to the point of blackness. I first noticed it on units, and then parts of the cities were getting darker and darker - and then black.

I'm also a little unsure of the stats given to high elf bolt throwers (okay, I'm a high elfer), as I really don't think it's a seige weapon - it should be amphibious and have bonuses against mounted and melee - but then I suppose eventually Elves won't have access to musketmen and cannons I assume?

Also, gunpowder (musketmen) seem overpowered. The blackpowder technology in WHFB is hardly good enough to negate the effects of city walls - otherwise warhammer seige would be even more unbalanced. Flyers should be able to negate the effects of city walls (and possibly be defended agaisnt by a hoarding?), not gunpowder, but cannons probably could...

Hmm... Aside from that - THANK YOU for building this!

Thx for your suggestions. Units are still in a basic design but suggestions like that help us to revamp them much later.

About your bug report that's really strange. Are you sure everything is in order with your system? What system specs are you using? And when did it start? Also can you post savedgames?

Anyone else got this?

I'll see what I can find. I only really noticed it in the end game. I'm running an Athlon 1.81 GHz with 2 GB of RAM and a Radeon X600 Series PCI express graphics card - so I doubt it's my system.

I'll see if I can reload and get you a save game some time.

Oh - I just remembered - there are 2 white tower wonders - which there probably shouldn't be. :D

I figured units are still pretty basic - given the beta status, and missing spells etc. I have HE books for 4th 5th and 6th editions and WE 5th Ed, so if you need art/history from them I can probably help out eventually. I'd just have to locate a scanner.

Okay - the darkness issue corrected itself after I reloaded the last save - I'm guessing that's a memory leak then...

Sorry.

Well, we do need a update really badly... It have not been updated since several weeks and we are being impatient cause of the long wait time we are having. I am here just to clarify you about the long wait time, try and get a small or large update during this weekend please so that we have more fun off this mod.

Ehm they are revamping the whole mod for Warlords and are not gonna release any more pathes or updates for Retail version of Civ4.... They have clarified several times that there will be nothing new before they are ready to release a playable Warlords version.... So have patience.

and please do remember that they are not paid officials making mods for you, they are gifted people using their sparetime making this mod for us. So trying to push them into "release dates" for updates and patches seems somewhat silly really.

Takes for clarifying me of the infomation, as I was wondering what the hell is going on so I just want a quick news bit on what's going on, Thanks for the info. Can I ask what is the estimated Release Date of this new version?

well, weeks is better than months ey!;)

currently were reforming the ancient era, because that seems to be the are of greatest weakness in the mod, so you can expect a few changes there.

however there are still a lot of areas which need attention, so i wouldnt be holding my breath, this is a delicate process everyone, so please just bear with us.

A careful guess estimate might be a few weeks after the warlordspatch got released. Anyway there is still much to be done. Especially the buildings need to be fully revamped this alone might take a lot of time. Civics have to be finished. Religion is worked on. Art is worked on. Swamp as new terraintype is planned. etc.
everything needs to be tested afterwards and probably rebalanced(well for this last step we might include the community again). So you see? I can't tell anything about a certain date. Just too many factors unknown. Be patient. Feel free to post ideas in the Warhammer Brainstorm thread though:

I think you should take, welll let me see now, about another YEAR, ya thats it, a Year, LOL, that way i can get people to play my MOD more and make BETTER suggestions, which at this time i have NONE, LOL, so the more time the BETTER, LOL:joke: Have a nice day.

I'm wondering...: what are the features introduced by Warlords that are so fundamental to a fantasy mod like WH to make it an expansion-only mod ?
