Warhammer fantasy units/graphics preview/development thread

It looks very good. If you gave it a shield it would be the spitting image of the dwarves from the Grey Hills in LOTR. :)

I don't remember them with pickaxes and candles  :D But I'm sure that we could use it :)

The candle looks great, aaglo. I can't think of any other suggestions to help improve the unit. :) Can't wait to see this one animated.

@RRnut
The Dwarves that came with Dain from the Iron Hills at the end of the Hobbit were armed with pick axes and mattocks, though they didn't have candles on their heads.

Oh... apparently my English was what was wrong. I always thought mattock was a type/synonym of hammer, but apparently it's more like a pickaxe.... Actually a hoe-esqe, adze type tool with only one flat end...

anyway... back to your regularly scheduled Warhammer Units :)!

Which always come out looking great Aaglo. Simply Great...

Hey aaglo, any chance you might be interested in making a Dwarven Longbeard unit?

The current long beard just isn't right, seeing as it has a short yellow beard and is simply a shrunken version of a Viking swordsman unit of some sort.

Yeah the Longbeard would be cool too, and a Dwarven Bowman:p

BTW the Miner is über too:goodjob:

how about some giant and demon slayers, looking more and more vicious
as it is now, the troll and dragon slayer aren't that scary looking, they especially need some awesome red/orange beards and big mohawks on their heads the bigger the mohawk the tougher the slayer imo :)

I would just like to say that the request for the Longbeard is certainly a valid one. However, Aaglo, since you already took my request for a miner and have done a wonderful job with that, I'm not going to be the ungrateful whelp who files one request after another. You've made the miner unit, so I'm content, and can put up with a less-than-perfect longbeard....... :mischief: though a new one would be sweet.

I'm sure it would be easy to change the beard of the existing longbeard to white, if people are happier with that. But, yeah, a new unit would be cooler.

One more dwarf! One more dwarf! One more dwarf!

With the dwarf archer, the number of similar style aaglo dwarves is 4... I don't care what it is, but I demand one more dwarf! ;)

similar style aaglo dwarfs = 4? What are those (ranger&miner&archer&.... ???? )

...unless you mean that dwarf ironmask? - well, that's not very "same-style", but quite close. So, what kind of dwarf would you suggest? A longbeard-type guy? Or something completely different? (I think that embryo's dwarf berserker is quite close to mine, Drift :) )

Ironmask is the one I was talking about. It's the same dwarf with loads of armor on. :)

Like I said, it's not really important what kind of a dwarf it is, but Longbeard or a Thunderer are the most likely candidates IMO. Embryo's Thunderer isn't a bad unit, but I don't think it blends in too well with yours. Berserker is better in this regard.

Well, I'll see what I can do about that 5th dwarf. But first I'll finish that archer. And I think I'll do something with this.

I call this guy a spiritwalker. The unit is pink, because he's partially transparent. I don't know what it could be used as, but my guess would be a ghosty guy. The head is shameless rip-off from the dwarf ironmask, but maybe I should replace it with something else. maybe a skull?

No civ-colouring on this, because we can't have transparent civ-colourings :p

What do you think of this?

Hey, looks good. A skull might be appropiate considering it's very likely an undead unit. :crazyeye: However, I think it looks just fine as it is. It's your call.

And thanks for considering that 5th dwarf. :)

Edit: smiley overdose.

Looks cool

An in game preview (when the unit is done) would give us a better idea.

And just to throw in my 2 cents, either a skull or empty open faced helmet with red eyes would be kinda neat :)

Wow looks scary! But is this unit even in warhammer?

Not that you shouldn't finish it ofcause;)

well, there are some sort of wraiths in the vampire counts unit lines, but the models look more like ragged sheets than ghosty warriors

here's a pic of those "spirit hosts"
