Warhammer fantasy units/graphics preview/development thread

Is it too big? I've imagined that the WH-dryads are roughly the same size as a grown man.

Yes, smaller and spindlier would be good, but anything would be a cause for celebration for the Wood Elves. Also, could you please do some sort of animation for planting trees? Even if it's just standing there with this arms raised and moving slightly as if calling up plant growth.

here's a preview of a stone elemental requested by drift (not perhaps strictly a warhammer fantasy unit, but It's almost close enough :) )

If you wonder what those blue-coloured areas are: They are cavities in the stone, like someone has chiseled out some outer rock away (it was propably the only way I could introduce civ-colour in this all-rock -unit).

How big should this unit be? Human-size? Ogre-size? Ridiculously huge giant size?

Great to see a request being made. Size should be somewhat bigger than a treeman. Actually, the current size looks just right when I compare it to the treeman flics.

The unit itself looks fabulous. Some suggestions that I can think of are:
- A bit thicker arms and legs. It doesn't look skinny at the moment, but it could be a touch more bulky. Not much though.
- Civ-color feels a little funny. There really isn't a good way of dealing with civ-color when it comes to units like this. Scattering the civ-color around it isn't a bad idea. It could be understood as some kind of moss that has attached itself to the creature. However, I'm not sure if I would prefer something like you did with the treeman - bands of civ-color around arms and legs. It feels more artificial, but is easily recognized as what it is. I really can't make up my mind about it though. Maybe your suggestion is better after all. I kinda like the moss idea, especially as the colors it would have in MoM are shades of green and brown. :) It won't look as good with other colors though. This is tricky, I'll let you decide. :p

Maybe you could have some scattered geode-type crystals growing from its shoulders and back, and make those civ colored?

That's a good idea Gomurr. :)

Bah! It wouldn't have been too late if you didn't produce at such an insanely fast rate :)

Well, it would have been a great idea for some other elemental - not a stone elemental (since I don't consider crystals as being stones :p )

Anyhow, how's this for a longbeard? Suggestions are again welcome :)

I like it, not a lot that I would see as being any different

I know this is the command group but perhaps the helmet covering the eyes like the champion in the middle?

The Longbeard is nice, but I think the beard should touch the ground.

Yeah, definatly a longer and thicker beard. It wouldn't hurt to make the legs shorter and wider, and the feet, as to give it a stockyer look. Dwarves usualy have fat bellies to. But besides from these pointers, it's beautiful as all of your units. Drinking beer as a victory animation would kick ass.

It wouldn't hurt the model, but it would hurt the animations, so I won't make him the stump like the warhammer models are.
I think I can make the beard a bit longer - but not much. I mean, the ground-sweeping beard looks good on the wh-models, but it really isn't going to be worth the effort to convert the beard to every detail on this civ-unit. The beard is already longer than on any other regular dwarf.
Any thicker beard than that, and it'll just look a bit crappy (especially the southern view).

A somewhat more exciting helmet might benefit the model. But otherwise, a great improvement on the current unit! :)

My only suggestions would be a longer beard and a more ornate helmet. Their beards have to touch the ground before they're considered a Longbeard, after all.

You made the Longbeard!! It's the greatest dwarf unit yet! I'm sorry I wasn't here to offer sugestions but it turned up great. I love the shield and the beard - it's ready for production. Thank you for making this.

Looks very "longbeardish", nice job as usual. :)

that's perfect
