I was curious to know what warrior units people would like to see in Civ5. I have been using the bronze age for most of my warriors and wanted to know what you think about using warriors with swords and spears instead of clubs. I figured that the Bronze Age was good because it seemed like the beginning of cultural diverse societies. I would start with the Stone age but Civ5's unit roster is small in size and would skip the bronze age which is much different than the classical age and was also a very interesting time period.

In my last pack I chose to do the Mycenae for the Greeks because it was the last military before the hoplite. I do plan on doing some earlier hoplites in the future though.

It is difficult to use units of the same time period because many civs existed and started at different times.

I made the Roman Republic units for the Rome civ because there military has changed so much during their time that it would be a choice between that or a bronze age Italian unit since Rome didnt exist until the late 6th century BC. I could make an earlier Rome unit from the Etruscan period, which I might do anyway for a mod I am planning for the future, along with some other ancient Italian civs.

Most of my conversions have been from RTW mods because of the extremely large library of units to work with and the historic accuracy on a large scale. I do prefer to convert Civ4 units over RTW units though, because it takes half of the time and is much less to edit. So, RTW units are secondary to Civ 4 depending on the unit. If the RTW unit is much more historically accurate and made really good then it is worth the extra work.

I was also wondering what warrior units I should do for the Asian Civs.

I would like to hear all your opinions. I don't mind redoing any civs either.

If there are any other ancient classes like spearman, swordsman, archers exc. that you would like to see for cultural diversity post it here also. I do plan on making a spearman set for JTitan's Barbarian Invasion. Thanks

About the question of bronze age units with swords instead of warriors with club, when I've asked it in the R.E.D. thread, the reponse were all in favor of adding them (see here).

I'll just quote heinous_hat here, cause it's totally my opinion on the subject:

These would be great. Warriors get a lot of exposure (especially in long games) and absolutely need some visual diversity.

No problem seeing metal weaponry a bit early as far as R.E.D. goes. The game's odd start date (late late Neolithic) and subsequent light treatment of the Bronze Age is the real problem here. Ideally, we'd have a longer opening and an early melee unit appear with metal working. That's in the realm of a gameplay mod, though, and I think outside of that it's better to represent early metal weaponry (other than spears) given how long warriors stay relevant. At worst, it's a toss up that has the benefit of added diversity.

Thank you Gedemon, :thanx:

This is the type of feedback I needed. :goodjob:

I would still like to hear about what units people would like to see from the Bronze and Classical ages for the Spearman, Archers, Swordsman and unfinished warriors.

I also need help with the Asian civs. My Asian history is a little rusty.
