A bit of background: I have a bit of a problem with speech comprehension & sometimes my speech is indecipherable. Today my speech was especially garbled and probably I sounded a bit drunk. Anyhow:

I went to buy a pack of construction paper at a store. (I use black construction paper to put between the magazine pages when I scan them. It stops bleedthrough). Anyways I got a pad for $2 and went up to the cashier.

Long story made short, the cashier asked a question, I answered, and for some reason she got rude at me for my garbled speech. Anyways, I put down the pad and walked out of the store. I went to another one (I was in a mall) and I bought the exact same one for $3.

Then my mom got after me for "wasting a dollar" because I was being "thin-skinned." Anyways I thought this would be an interesting debate. What would you have done if you were me?

NOTE: Some of you will say I should have talked to a manager or confronted the cashier. The problem is that my speech is incomprehensible. So there's really no point to it.

Poll coming.

I'd confront the cashier.

I didn't really feel like making a fool of myself, especially since nobody would be able to understand me anyways.

Why is your speech incomprehensible anyway?

I'm not sure. It's always been like this. I also have trouble comprehending speech (although my hearing is fine) so it's probably related to that.

Why don't you just re-use the black construction paper?

Because it went missing. It probably accidentally landed in the garbage.

I'd stay inside until I can get my speech comprehensible again.

Usually I dont have to speak. I just go up to the cashier and drop down the stuff & the money.

Decent service is worth an extra dollar. I sure wouldn't go to a restaurant with rude servers to save one dollar.

In what way was she rude, are you sure you didn't overreact?

You're both wrong.

The problem is that your time isn't valuable enough to make traveling between stores not worth doing.

Find more valuable stuff to do with your time.

I was in a mall. I didnt have far to go.

Some sort of snarky remark about "drunk customers" (as I mentioned in the OP I probably sounded a bit drunk) but I couldn't really make the whole thing out as there was a crying baby.

My points stands.

Well I have more time than I know what to do with. It's not like I can put it in a bank and save it for when I need it.

If you don't tell the manager, how will he ever know that the cashier needs some lessons in good customer service? If you are not confident to talk to the manager, you could do it in writing, or ask someone else to do it. If you are not bothered enough to put the effort into fixing the problem, you should have just paid anyway.

Good customer service is often difficult to find, and is worth paying extra for, but it is better to reward good service rather than punishing bad service: everyone has bad days, if you let one bad experience stop you from returning to that store, you are probably cutting off your nose to spite your face.

You should investigate your possibilities of seeing a speech therapist. You might be able to get the province to pay for it, though you'll as ever have to content with your mom.
