Why oh why are in the Ancient Age the religious techs like Ceremonial Burial, Mysticism and Polytheism mostly at the bottom, and the military and construction techs on top,
but in the Medieval Era, it's the other way around: Monotheism and Theology are on top, with gunpowder, Military Tradition, Invention and Chemistry are at the bottom.

I think there should be a question mark in there somewhere.

The only pattern I could see is that the "simpler" (meaning, fewer branches) part of the tree is at the bottom, while the greater branches are at the top. The Industrial Age has more complexity at the top also. I agree with your observation, that the techs related to religious topics switched places.
