I was the Zulu, on chieftain, and I rolled my knights into Babylon, expecting huge resistance. Instead, nearly all of their cities were undefended, save their capital and one city with a spearman. Isn't that weird. Sorry if it is not a dtaield description, but I played it a while ago and was just reminded of it.

they were prolly lossing money, and had to sell all their units :p

Fairly common.

yer any other level and i may have been slightly worried but this is chieften, probably decided to take them for a stroll to the other side of the world

I often play chieften, and I have never seen this happen before...

With 0$ in the bank and deficit spending, 1 unit and 1 city improvement is lost per turn (not true for the human player on chieftain dif.)
So if the AI has few units (likely on chieftain), they may end up with undefended cities.
Sometimes you can even see how an AI unit dies in the field w/o an apparent reason (just falls to the ground w/o being attacked).

I have had that happen to my units too. It always happens in the Jungle. It pops up and says that they have died of disease. But I see in that pic it doesnt say it, but then again it isnt likely to say it because its not your unit. Like when another civs plane bombs a road that isnt yours, and you saw it. It wont tell you that it happend, but the road will be gone.

Well, you're of course right about desease (can happen if a unit stays on the same jungle tile for more than 1 turn).
First I *thought* it was desease, but that's a forest tile... so conclusion was that the warrior got disbanded.
