Weird Trade network issue

In my game as the english last night, I had two occurences of not getting resources when I should.

The first was iron, directly conected by road for about 20 turns before I suddenly got the popup informing me I had my first strategic resource.

Second occurence was even weirder: I had no horses, so I started trading for them with an over seas power (gold + gems for horses). The over seas power had an excess supply of 2 horses, and I had many harbors. They were the largest country in the world and presumably had more than one harbor as well. In my war with the portugese, I take one of their cities, they take it back. As soon as they take it back I get the popup telling me I've lost my supply of horses. I check the trade screen and celts (my overseas trading partner) again has an excess supply of 2 horses and is actually still getting my gems every turn :( :( :(

I'm attaching the autosave on the turn where the 2nd event with horses occurred. As soon as Portugal takes Coimbra, I lose my supply of horses from the Celts across the ocean.

You were giving dyes, not gems for the horses. You lost the dyes, so the horses for dyes deal was broken.

Contact the Celts and then click on 'active' at the bottom of the screen and you will see (19) by horses and dyes, and (6) by the gems. So there was a deal you just signed a turn ago where you were giving dyes for horses, and earlier on you gave them gems for something (gold, a tech?).

Hint for future games: Build ALOT more workers, and build barracks.

*bonk self* Thanks.

And actually that game was unique, every bit of bad luck that could happen to me did happen to me. Particularly with barbarians.

I lost at least 4 settlers (3 with spearman escorts) and 2 workers to barbs.

The game was set to raging, but it was *way* worse than raging ussually is. What happened (I think) is that the portugese explored all the open land north of my start position and caused half a dozen barb camps to spawn.

The other thing your not seeing from that save is that the southern half of my continent was 50% jungle and 50% swamp :P I'd already cleared that up by the time of that autosave though.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion though, I'm still not sure what the deal with the iron was, but I don't have a save from that period anymore.

just to let you know, Expansionist civs can't pop Barbs from Huts.

No, thats not what i meant.

Barbarian camps can't spawn in territory that hasn't been explored by at least 1 civ. The portugese sent their scout and explored all that territory (alot of it) but didn't settle it. The result was a half dozen or more camps that spawned at about the same time. End result of me: Stacks of 3 or 4 horseman barbs being common place.

What really hurt though was the age change uprising, that hit me with a stack of about 20-30 horseman and accounted for 2 of the settler losses and 1 of the workers.

In any case, this has been confirmed to be my error and not a bug (I'm actually very, very glad its not a bug). So if a moderator wants to close and/or remove this thread to make the real bugs/issues stand out more then please do so.
