Welcome New Members

Hi All,
Have been visiting the forum for a long while but decided to join to be able
to post some questions. I am pretty old for this bunch (or any other) at 59
but still am an avid strategy gamer. I go back to Tactics II if anyone can
remember that ancient board game.
I have 3 kids - daughters 30 and 24, and a son 21 who is in the Marine Corps
not to mention assorted foster kids. I work as master scheduler for a
small mfg. outfit here is SE Minnesota.
Anyhow, thanks to all the staff for maintaining this site.
Take care all.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site and to the Civ series. a friend that i have been playing online games with(Everquest,Guildwars) suggested i try Civ IV.I went out Saturday afternoon and bought it.......Thanks alot Spencer, i missed the New Year celebration because i had my nose stuck in this game and couldn't get it out.
This is my first Civ game, however, i thought i would like it, had played Sim City for a long time, and thought the game play would be somewhat the same.
So far, i have been pleased with the game. Just wish the time wouldn't fly by so fast : )
Anyway, nice to meet everyone and appreciate all the info here.
BTW, almost 50 and no kids at home, just my wife and 2 dogs in Arizona.

CIV 4 is the worst game i have seen from firaxis. It doesnt even run properly on machine with 1 gb ram and 128 mb graphics card. i wonder what happens to ppl with older machines or cards. i am sayin this even after path 1.52.
Bring back CIV 3 anyday.I suggest all newbies not to buy it until they fix their problems first.

3 year old Dell with a 64 mb graphics card, 256 mb RAM, and a 2GHz Intel processor here. Doesn't work as quickly as I'd like but since the patch it has worked.

That said, I agree that it is rediculous that you can't get it to work with the specs you stated. Although I'll admit I'm not entirely sure that this is the right place for a discussion about PC specs and wrether the game works or not.

Sounds like you enjoy Civ3 though. :)

You're welcome to discuss Civ4's perceived shortcomings in an appropriate thread. And there have been plenty of them. For specific problems visit our Tech Support forum, and possibly our Bug Reports forum. For more general discussion, search this forum, and if you feel necessary, start your own thread. But please bring more to the discussion than "it sucks!". ;)

Liked CIV II a lot, but i have not been able to play CIV IV despite following all recommendations.
Now I see how easy it is to post I will go and post on tech support but while I'm here, although I have enabled logging, I do not see a "dx log" as requested in the thread I was looking at. I see App.log, audio.log, init.log etc but nothing "dx" - perhaps I missed something.
Happy gaming.

Hi all

Male, Danish, late 20's. Short and to the point ;)

Playing Civ since nr 1, still semi strugling to win at prince so not too shabby at this. Ill try and post constructively bla bla. Love you all :)

Found the site through CivIV.com. Poondoggie is my Xbox Live tag, so I pretty much just use it for everything.

I've played each Civ game, but have only owned 3 and now 4. I try to stay away from these games because of the time I'll sink into them (and because I'm horrible at them :p), but they're just too much fun!

Hi~! I'm Snipper! Noth' said. <Scrambles out of this board like scramble eggs~!>

Greetings!

i recently discovered Civ4 when an enthusiastic friend of mine toldme about it. so, i have to admit that Civ4 is the first game i play of the series. i might, however, revive the old games on an older laptop or something... who knows? :)

See you around!

Hello to ya all. I've known this site for a long time. Back since civ 2 was in fashion. I've designed 2 scenarios for civ2mge: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2/downloads/scenarios/ancient/(Wars of the Mediterranean and In Nomine Domini, both of them available here on civfanatics).

And for the last couple of months I've been trying to update Wars of the Mediterranean to a super C3C scenario and modpack (sadly in the meantime civ 4 hit the market and now it's kinda late but I am almost finished and it would be a shame to renounce it. And I'd like to ask you guys how could I post a new scenario for c3c as i see i can only post a modpack in the forums. Thx and have a happy new year!

Hello

Bienvenue a civfanatics. A great place to be whether you have "charbon" or not. I might add that if you want to get your message across, it might be better to speak in words that people understand.

BTW, I always knew that froggies have a thing for weird abbreviations but... fana. FANA??? Do people really say this?

never played Civ, but have enjoyed playing other type of games of similiar theory, Alpha Centuri, Rise of Nations.

Civ 4 caught my eye and I found this site. Full of good information.

by the way, I'm an old gamer (57).

Hello. My name is Andrew, grachi as a nickname and hence my username. This is really my first go with the Civilization series, I played/watched my friends briefly play the second one but didn't find it horiribly interesting at the time (I was too engulfed in Quake DeathMatch). So Finally several years later I have gotten tired of the mindless run-and-gun of FPS games, decided to pick up Civ 4 and have never regretted it. This game has really opened my eyes to strategy based gaming and the depth within. I am sorry I had not picked up Civ or similiar strategy game before because I highly enjoy Civ 4 and the type of gameplay it brings.

So saying that, I am excited to get talking about the game on the forums here and get in the nitty-gritty about talking about this excellent game :)

EDIT: I just realized I wasn't thorough enough in my gaming history. Civ 4 is the first type of this KIND of strategy game I've ever played, meaning turned based. But I played StarCraft and WarCraft III for probably a combined 4 years, so I am no stranger to the Strategy genre as a whole. When speaking of FPS games like I did before, that has been the main genre I have played, probably for a combined 6 or 7 years. But I've been playing Real-time strategy games for a long time as well.
