This might sound like a stupid question but I was playing the rise of Rome scenario on Warlords and couldnt find the victory resource. Has this been done on purpose or am i just blind?!

I haven't looked at it yet, but maybe you need a tech to reveal it or something.

Unless its a fault in the game but i can only research great persons and upgrade the praetorians to I, II, III etc....

If you are playing as Rome, Rome will have no victory resource. You have to go out and conquer the other countries and get their victory resource. If you play as Carthage, Carthage will have no victory resource, but Rome will.

oh right i understand now.

Not starting with a victory resource as Rome is balanced by the superiority of Roman units, but trying to play as any of the other civs in this scenario looks like a nightmare.

On a related note: since you start with 0 score and don't generate any points until you capture a victory resource, your civ won't appear on the Info Screen graph (because I guess the graph logic figures that a 0 score means you're dead) -- even for Power, Culture, etc. Then when you finally get a resource and score points, suddenly the graph values will jump up to their normal values. A minor oversight, but it does mean that if you want to check your Power or Culture ratings early in the scenario, you're out of luck.

Also something that may not be obvious: the Victory resource can be traded. This is useful if someone offers to Capitulate to you and you haven't captured the resource yet... you can accept the Capitulation and force him to trade the Victory resource to you. Which is pretty neat.

The Roman "Purple" Victory Resource is just west of Carthage. This is while playing as Rome. I have found all of them but Carthage's (Orange? I have to look again) Victory Resource.

I've been playing as Rome, which seems pretty easy. I'm only halfway through the scenario, and assuming I don't lose any of the victory resources I've won, I should win easily on points.

Playing as the Celtics looks to be a tough, tough go.

I actually preferred the Civ3 Conquests version. It was all about becoming the largest empire -- I think 2/3rds of the known World's population as I recall -- rather than beating specific opponents. It was much more challenging. I played it through twice, and didn't come close to winning.

Greece's is just to the west of Athens. Egypt's is next to their capital. I'm still searching for the Celtics'. It actually took me a minute to figure out how they worked, as I had taken Carthage, and didn't realize I didn't get points until Carthage had a city radius and the Victory Resource next to Carthage was under Roman influence.

I played as Carthage and had Rome subdued by Turn 60 or so.

Here's the basic anti-Roman strategy. Pret's are annoying. So, don't fight them. You do this by knocking out their Iron. The iron is near the Italian Alps. After that, just attack with glee.

As for the Celt V.P. you need to have a decent history background...the Celts came from Britain...so you'll need to invade current day London, and Bristol most likely.

It's in Britain. I went charging through Gaul trying to find it with no luck, but then Brennus capitulated. Once vassalized, you can force the AI to give you their victory resource without actually capturing it. Very cool (especially since I avoided an invasion of Britain thanks to that...).

i won the game with carthage... just. it was by 20 points in the end. defeating rome was hard but u have 2 avoid praetorians and take out iron as vra said. the greeks and celts were no big problem
