What´s my secret project?

Although there´s a mars terrrain set I decided to make my own, based on sn00pys terrain. I twill be used for second version of the mod where you attack alien bases on Mars. this version will be more warfare-oriented, while the invasion scn on the earth map is more classic empire building (of course, there ´s also enough to fight) ;)
 
This looks outstanding. BeBro, are you a Mac user, or just using the style for kicks and giggles? :)
 
my input: please dont use that terain Bebro, it's bad on the eyes, too bright, too orange/red.
 
Hm, yes red is quite aggressive. But otoh Mars is the red planet - normal terrain wouldn´t fit there.
 
I think its very nice. You could just give it a darker tone, to spare the crowds eyes;)

Ok, changed it a bit, made it slightly darker. Hills look more "rocky" Also created craters now (modified forests) - should I keep them?

The think it needs more craters and needs alot more canyons but besides that I think it is really cool :goodjob:
 
Perhaps the craters could be a bit deeper
IMO it looks like someone dented the map w/a hole puncher :p
And yes, more craters and vallies, but great looking!

Astounding. Absoutly austounding. My only question is what are you going to do with water, concerding there isn't any on Mars? You can turn them into new land-based terrain, however it looks like it's hardcoded so you can't change the fact that land units can't get onto them :(
O well! I'm sure you'll figgure something out!

O, a good thing to do is when making the icecaps, make a resource called water (something of the sort) and have all the human cities be based around the icecaps. Also, turn the food bonuses for the land down to almost zero mby 1 for all of them, but I suggest zero, for all terrain cept for the icecaps, making sure that the first cities are all built around fresh water. Then you can make a wonder called like International Water Transport System that puts an (airport) in all of your cities so you can trade water to all your cities. Actually, that might be a bit complicated for ne1 to do, even myself, so only include that if you're gonna be extra-special to us :p

Well, I have to say that currently the version that plays on Mars follows a different concept that the invasion scenario on Earth.
It is rather planned as small "just-for-fun/beat-the-Aliens" alternative to the big, slow Earth invasion version.

I´ll release two versions of the invasion scenario: one starting in the first tech era with a weak start for the XCom so that you have to build up first before you can do much against the Aliens. This will be quite similar to a standard civ game.

The other version will have an "advanced start" at the beginning of the second era - more bases, troops etc. to get into action sooner. This version will have less turns.

The version playing on Mars has a quite small map 100x100 instead of the 140x140 earth map. Furthermore it is a flat map, representing just a part of the mars. It has no polar icecaps therefore, and there´s no water.

It start at the beginning of the 4rth era, with most of the units available, has only two sides (XCOM/Aliens), and will be even shorter. Irrigation will not be possible, and you can´t build much bases (and there isn´t enough time to do so), it is much more warfare oriented.

OTOH there will be some surpises, eg. an Alien fortress complex in a part of the map, consisting of several cities protected by a special defence system (impassable terrain).
 
If at all there will be a Mars randon map version, instead of forests you can make craters a bonus rescource. That would make a more equal distribution across Mars. Also perhaps (big perhaps) you can turn Mountains into Canyons, with graphics changed to look like canyons? Then you could have rather than a mountain range a big canyon.
 
Make water deep Canyons thats so all units can not go on them. then have it where just boats can go on Canyons.
 
Ok, I plan to make a public beta release of the invasion scenario soon. What does this mean?

Well, the mod is now fully playable, all gfx, most sounds are implemented. Still to do is some work with the text files, correction esp. on the civilopedia have to be made (although most entries for units etc. are finished as well).

One annoying thing is that some testers reported some crashs (game exits to windows) during the game. But I´m not sure how to fix this, since they seem to happen randomly (I´m not even sure if the problem is on the mod´s side, since I have sometimes similar crashs in normal civ games too).

So with the public beta all who want get a chance to play this scenario, and I hope to get more feedback esp. about gameplay and game balance.
