What about France???

Hoqq - unfortunately, even if the game itself is multi-language, the manual and tech trees from Amazon.de are likely to be in German only...
or we can trade the german one with people from the US who got the French tech tree

it's in the FNAC by châtelet. Got mine at 10h05. Just shelved it they said. The release date on the board was still on Oct 28th though.
Tech tree and manula in French...
Starting installation now

cheers

LeConquerant : Can you update us with the installation process regarding your computer's characteristics, the language, etc... I guess we shouldn't fear buying the French DVD version, unlike Civ3 (compatibility with the US version) ? How many copies were available at FNAC Châtelet ? Are there enough in other stores ? How much did you pay ?

It's 55 euros on the official Fnac site... Almost double the price of play.com, I wonder if I'll buy it or wait. If it's out in the regular stores, they must be able to deliver it sooner than 4nov.

ok. Fnac has them in Nantes but refuses to sell them before the 4th of novembre. I asked in Leclerc, they haven't got it yet. Tomorrow is their date. I called a small shop : already sold out. So aI called another one and made a reservation. I'll get in in about 46 minutes!!!!! :crazyeye:

oh and I'm off tomorrow, so one damn short night and a whole WE playing!!!! rofl

Got to feel for the French the rotten Americans have pinched all their posters

I've got my CIV IV!!!!
I bought it right now at SCORE GAME at the Defense (paris) station dans les quatres temps.

La Fnac (de la défense-Parsi) m'ont confirmé qu'ils l'avaient sans doute reçu mais il n'était pas en rayon!!!!

I'm in work now and i can not play!!!!
LeSphinx

Great! I'm just by... Once again... How much???
EDIT: Found it... 52?

Price please !!!

Score Games in La Défense ? Close to home, I may check. LeSphinx, long time no see. Were you the one "involved" in compatibility issues for Civ3 ? Is that solved with Civ4 ? Can I run to a store with no risk except a high price ?

HOURRAAAA!!!! I've got it. I bought it in a small shop, as la Fnac didn't want to sell it. 52€ but hey, it's worth it! (I thnk... not sure until I've played...)
After buying it I went to la Fnac and had a little talk with the vendor. I think that he's busy putting them on the shelves right now... lol :goodjob:

the european version is exactly the same as the us version, every single byte is the same except language audio files (more languages in european version). civilized.de did a test

Oh nice, do you have a link ? With some translation maybe ? :D

I refer to the "French DVD version" because it includes the manual and the tech tree in French, but it's true that the DVD should be exactly the same product everywhere in Europe... at least in countries speaking French, English, German, Spanish and Italian. If it is the same as the US CDs, fine, but what I'd want to know, and I know it's too early to tell, is if a US modded game (like adding units) can properly run with a French-language-installed Euro-software. Since that wasn't the case with Civ3... Or is it possible to have some kind of dual install (without installing the game twice, just the different files) in French and English, so as to choose the language in which you want to play the game on the fly, depending on what save you play ?

this is exactly what has been said on civilized.de:

"Civilization IV - Unterschiede US- und EU- Version
Geschrieben von Kai am Donnerstag, den 27. Oktober 2005 - 11:22

translation:

civilization IV - Differences US and EU Version
written by kai on thursday 27. october ...

after having received both versions and after having installed both versions for testing purposes, here's the most important result: the binary data of both versions is completely identical, which means the two versions kernels are absolutely identical. This is especially important for fans of the original version and for later patches.

The french version contains the english language too. Only the manual and tech-tree are in french alone. So you'll be able to play in english..

I'll wait for play.com. Twice the price difference is a bit too much for me, deontolagicaly (if this word exists), deontologiquement otherways.

ARCAN: "... After buying it I went to la Fnac and had a little talk with the vendor. I think that he's busy putting them on the shelves right now..."
Arcan, thank you you worked for all the others. In Chatelet there are many: one small column on the 'nouveautés' shelf, just left to the many many boxes of Guild Wars and there is a whole pyramid a bit earlier in the shop.

they were ok in that Châtelet FNAC, did not make a fuss at all on stuff like release dates: it was already on shelves for sale. (They only politely declined to query their system to let me know if there had been other civ4 sales before me... sorry i'm evil  )
