What achievements should be in Civ 5?

Do you get a list of achievements you haven't done, or is it a surprise thing, where achievements pop up without knowing it was an achievement to begin with?

If you don't know what achievements are possible, I don't think they would add much at all. But, if you know what achievements are possible, than it would be cool to add another level of self challenge.

I just don't want to have to look at other people's achievements to know what is and isn't an achievement.

They can go both ways but are almost always the kind that tell you what to do first. Some games will hide "special" achievements but that is up to fraxis.

Sorry, i dont think i killed it first post... just seems not too many people are intrested in achievements I guess. I was waiting for a flame on me for saying that.

Hippie-win a game with no war
Occ-Win a one city challange

So there you go, some achievements!

OIC - get ambushed by an enemy unit
ZOMG - have a zombie plague in one of your cities
BBQ - wipe out an enemy unit using fire arrows
Promises are made to be broken - From an alliance with a Civ then betray that Civ.
Ultimate Tycoon - start three corporations in one game
Business Mogul - start six corporations in one game
Heroism - annihilate a unit equal or more than your unit's HP

there.

With the amount of work required for adding achievements with Steamworks, I don't think it is necessary that everyone wants them for it to be a good decision.

I like them :) I think it could be fun to chase achievements. Hopefully they'll be mostly based on skill, and not the "Play the game for a million years and get lucky" kind. Here are some ideas, though it's hard without knowing how the game works.

City Conqueror - Conquer 5 or more city states in one game.
Who Let the Dogs Out? - Bring along three war allies against the same enemy.
A Hero is Born - Get xx XP for a single unit.
Send in the Clowns! - Win a cultural victory with at most 3 cities (or something like that).
Everybody's Friend - Get 100% of the votes in a diplomatic election (SP?).
Medieval Space Traveller - Launch a space ship before 1500AD.
We're All Alone - Win a game starting in isolation.
This is my gun - Conquer all civilizations with only riflemen.
The Beginning is the End - Win a game before year 0.
Incan Pride - Win a conquest vicory on the earth map as the Incans.

Hopefully someone can think of more interesting ones than me :P I also guess most of these would need a difficulty level and world size requirement as well.

impossible, completely impossible unless you have a game crashing bug that prevents you from playing for more than a minute and it isn't fixed until 2 weeks are over, I fully intend on giving it the good ole 16+ hour workout after it gets installed.
