What are the best modpacks out there?

Pardon me for asking a likely stupid and potentially inflammatory question.

I was a long time civ 2 player but am relatively new to civ 3. I can see that people have put a ton of work into modpacks and maps, but given my slow internet connection, I'd appreciate some advice about what you all think are the best modpacks and maps. If you could include a link to the thread where I can find the download, it would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend starting from GIDustin's site that has a list of the best and most extensive mods of Civ3: http://www.civ3files.com/

And if Zulu catches you with his "wrong forum" animation, don't let it get to you. It's just something he does to every post he sees in a wrong forum.

May I suggest to specify your question? What are you looking for exactly? IMHO, the Civ community has little problems to agree on the 'best' mod for a certain purpose....

If you're looking more for a Scenario with a random map, you'd need to tell us what you prefer - Ancient Empires, Fantasy Worlds, Dinosaurs,...

If you're looking for altered rules for certain game aspects (combats, expansion, loading time), mods like AU, Balancer or Rhye's are things to check.

If you want something that is close to a new game with tons of additions (but of course, this also means 'more complicated'), try DyP.

If you're looking for a fun scenario, which is a variation on the normal civ 3 boundaries, get the star wars mod! its great fun, once you get started

however, you need ptw or conquests for it.......

Warhammer, DYP, BBW, and TETs are my favs. WOTW looks GREAT, but you need a high-end machine to play it.

You do realize that these acronyms mean nothing to a newbie? Even I can't figure right now what BBW is.

BBW is Bigger, Better Worlds (with or without dinos)
WOTW is War Of The Worlds
