In a game I am busy capturing the last AI cities and my democracy fell and went in to anarchy, what would have triggered this?

maybe you were just tired adn yuo changes the govermen t on accident

(sorry, if this is the case, the spelling is becuase I'M tires)

Could be war weariness - IIRC Democracy has really bad war weariness, so the number of unhappy people would be pretty significant if you started the war and have taken it on of a long time.

Were any of your cities in Disorder?

It is the war-weariness. Democracy is the only government that's prone to collapsing to Anarchy.

A lot of people (including me) would advise you not to switch to Democracy, but to stay in Republic. If you've been in Monarchy earlier while doing extensive warring and you want to swich, switch to Republic.

The only cities in disorder where the captured persian cities, I think

i had captured a lot of them in a few turns. i would have destroyed them, but using them as hopping points allowed me to conduct a faster war, modern army versus infantry

now I am in anarchy i have lots of happy citizens (i have alll 8 luxuries)

If you don't change government than definitely war weariness is the culprit.

only war weariness causes demo to fall. rioting of captured cities does not contribute to that. if you wait through the anarchy period and then choose democracy, but are still at war, then since you have not reduced your war weariness the government will immediately fall again.

Would capturong then abandoning a city have increased war weariness, it is that i was using this technique to rapidly advance through culture without having to garrison large numbers in all the persion cities to prevent culture flip.

Perhaps abandoning a city means more war weariness?

No. What most likely causes you problems is that any time you are attacked - even if you win the battle - you get a little bit of WW. At least that is what used to cause me major headaches - until I came across Oystein's War Academy article on WW:

What if we're religious? :)

I think it is giving people with no vestment in the country the vote, what you mean in the game. As was said WW can rip democracy. I would go further than saying not to switch to it, I would say do not even research it.

I get Democracy occasionally when I'm ahead to get Free Artistry. The AI will pay for that, sometimes up to 50 gpt.

It was the war weariness. I find democracy is no good for war. Go with Fascism or Communism. Far better.
