What Civ are you most surprised is missing?

IMO the Dutch deserve access to Tulips this time. Maybe each polder you build gives you one copy of the Tulips luxury?

I'm extremely disappointed that Native North America is completely unrepresented in the game so far. I hope they'll make up for it quickly with an impressive DLC. The lack of Persia and Babylon is also surprising. I was initially excited to see Sumer in place of Babylon, but having seen how poorly Sumer was implemented I would have preferred Babylon.

Certainly not before Persia or the Mongols though, right?

There is not really a powerhouse economic civ, so i would say certainly. Could also have an unique art museum. Right now we have to much tourists in Amsterdam. So much culture.
Or have unique luxuery goods like Indonesia/certain city states in civ 5. Right now the Netherlands is the biggest producer in frozen fries in the world. Just to name one.

If spain is in vanilla civ 6 why not the Netherlands?

Definitely Persia first. They better be one of the first dlcs. After that, the Inca and Mongols. Also would like to see Ottomans, Mali, Ethiopia, and a SE Asian civ soonish.

I'm not surprised over any of the missing civs and rather like that they've added different ones, but I did like the Shoshone from Civ 5 and hope they make a comeback in 6 at some point.

Canada.... ok mostly kidding, but one day my little G8 country will make it! More seriously. The Mongols... They are like the empire that defied the rules of other empires...

Also Native North America. Feels like they could have done something cool.

I'd be shocked. The Shoshone were a last-minute replacement for the Pueblo, and there are a lot of interesting first-tier options that haven't been in civ before that they could explore before rehashing a second-tier choice. Don't get me wrong: I liked the Shoshone in BNW, but I expect they were a one-off. (Still, the more indigenous New World civs the merrier. Same principle applies to the Ancient Near East. ;) )

Agree. The Mongols and the Native Americans.

I don't want to start a riot but, seeing how the Spanish Empire was once the largest empire in the world, you'd expect them to have precedence over the Dutch?

In any case, a lot of people already think Civ is too eurocentric, man. Persia/Mongols/Native Americans would at least address this somewhat.

I think the Mongols, Persia, Ottomans, Inca, and some variety of Native North American and Southeast Asian being excluded was a mistake. Scythia are interesting, but not more so than any of those, probably should have been the Mongols. Figuring out who else to cut, however, is admittedly hard. Spain has a clear legacy to justify their inclusion. The Kongo might be a weaker candidate, if there weren't no other civs than Egypt in Africa. Sumer looks cool, but is probably not worth including over Persia or the Ottomans. Brazil should never have been chosen over the Inca. After that, it's hard to say who to leave out due to my Euro-centric understanding of history. I'm inclined to say that it really needed at least 22 civs, if not 24 or 25. But the more you include, the more you leave out by association, I suppose.

I will not be original - Persia. But my reason is different. It has nothing to do with historical importance, but simply with the fact Persia seems to be a developers' favourite since introduction in Civ II.
This is also why I am not surprised at all with the absence of the Ottomans, Iroquois, Inca, Mongols, etc... Even if Spain would not be in the game I would not be surprised.

As to the Persians, I really hope we will get a Persian civ this time that represents all of pre-Islamic Iran: Achaemenids, Savafids, Sassanians.

Persia too. It's one of the ancient world Civilizations you wold expect to make always in (altough they weren't in Civ I, to provide the complete view)

A side step from the topic. Oil rules the world, wars are started to conquer oil, Arabia doesn't have a single bonus related to oil....this is the greatest missing imo more than a missing civ.

None, they cant release the game with 50 civ's so I'm sure your favorite will come down the road

Mongols, Persia, Inca. All of them were mainstays that often appeared in the base game.

Not having Persia was baffling to me, since it was the power base for several empires. They'll return for sure in an expansion or DLC, but still, it's odd.
